So, for those of you who talk to me on teamspeak more than often, you'll know already I inherited a fancy road bike and have been raving about it for a few weeks. I was interested in finding more people that like riding ( be it BMX, Mountain, Road, fixies, anything!) and would like talking about their experiences and just the topic in general. Also, if there's anyone really into it who knows their gear etc, I could use some advice about parts, maintenance, etc.
And without further ado, here is the bike I inherited;
~1979 Team Raleigh Record (?Super record?) UK model, Reynolds 531 butted tubing.
My dad used to ride 20 miles a day on it, but just moved to New York and left it to me. I've since cleaned, replaced, fixed, and adjusted all of the parts to get it in comfortable, practical working order. A new seat/seatpost is on the way, as this one is mildly uncomfortable and the post is getting a bit old. I still have all of the original components in decent working order, but prefer the more modern bits I've stuck on. The mirror helps greatly with busy traffic down here in Miami ;D
So far I've been riding casually, putting about 5 miles a day on it, sometimes less. The brakes and brake-pads could do with a massive tune-up or outright replacement, but I cant afford decent quality brakes at the moment, so I'm thinking of just replacing the pads for now.
What do you guys think? Have any suggestions? Please post pictures of your bike(s) and explain something about it (them)!
