With Halo 4 and BlackOps 2 having been released recently, one might overlook the new addition to the Far Cry series.

Far Cry 3 is an open world fps with light rpg elements and a crafting system. You're thrown into a hostile island with pirates and wild animals and you have the choice of either silently stabbing them to death or just setting fire to everything. You have your main missions, plus a bunch of side paraphernalia and what have you. As well as, you have multilayer, split-screen and a map creator (yes, you can place and fight animals and make ai in your own map, although you won't be able to publish it online).

Owning three titles in the series, I've been looking forward to this for a while. The game is being released today for the Europe side of things and yesterday for the US, although I'm bad with timezones. I've pre-ordered for the 360 and am rather excited.

Will anyone else be picking this title up?

Haven't played any of the others in the series, but after watching Hannah from the yogscast play it, I want it. Do you have to know the stories of the others to understand it or?
No, it's a stand-alone storyline c:

I've heard that the story segments are a bit too linear, demanding you to stay within the areas listed for the story.

Other than that, this game is brilliant.
At first the story missions are open, for about 30% of the game, but then as the plot thickens you end up spelunking through linear caves. I didn't like how that went, but my favourite part of the game is just exploring the island in freedom.

As one can do whatever inbetween story missions, I didn't really feel like it was hindering gameplay. Explore the island, and whensver you want some nice, sort of linear solid shooting, do another mission.

It's an awesome, fluid game, some of the best fun I had this year.

A good point, it did add more variety, plus linear missions help to craft a stronger story. As well as, it provided some good opportunities to use all those awesome melee chain abilities (beside the bow, using the knife is super fun).

I absolutely love the game, although the online is buggy but I didn't get it for online anyway. Worth every penny.
