Hm, I suppose so. If the human believes that he/she is going to a better place (like their god's castle), then one might not see it as a suicidal kind of thing. If I were told that if I had to be eaten/burned alive/etc in order to meet my god and idol, I guess I'd do it without hesitation. I don't know how if this can be approached in the way I want to approach it without discussing religion, so I'll keep it light as I can.

While I personally don't believe in a greater, superhuman force, I'll see it through the eyes of someone in, say, Ancient Rome. If a part of Rome floods and the water is rising, then yes. I would make a human sacrifice to Posideon.

in this day and age, i am fairly sure in all nationalities and creeds think that human sacrifice is wrong (bar certain religions like islam, buddhism, but that's less sacrifice and more being a martyr)
