Iji is actually one of the older games I found during it's time, way back in 2008.
It's a Side-Scrolling Action/Adventure Platformer created by Daniel Remer and released on the 10th of October in 2008.
You play as a girl named Iji, that goes to visit her father with her little sister, Mia, and older brother, Dan. While they were staying with him at his job of being a researcher, she looks outside at the clouds. All is peaceful until several rays of light falls down from the sky in an instant!
She later wakes up lying on a bed in what seems to be an unoccupied room. She looks through the glass on the door to see strange creatures with weapons standing over dead bodies.
Her older brother, Dan, speaks from over the intercom, telling her of what has happened... And how she was revived into a cyborg soldier.

Or as a pacifist, refraining from killing anything at all.
The latter is obviously the harder one.
