Hello.
I've made a group on steam called 'Legit prices for the TF2 Key'. The goal of the group is clear; we want the price of keys to drop down again. Even if it's only by a scrap we will already be happy. Of course our goal will be to try and get it back to 2,33! If you are interested in joining it, you can do so here.
I am not sure if this is illegal due to advertising, and if it is then I am sorry. Please, post in this thread to give others the opportunity to see it. If we get enough people to join we might be able to actually change something! Thank you in advance.

The culprit in all of this is backpack.tf, and then mainly this part of the website. The TF2 economy's prices are influenced by players under special circumstances. Let's take an item that is not the key for example... The B.M.O.C, the Big Man of Christmas; a hat obtained by completing christmas achievements that, if I remember correctly, could only be completed by playing several games that you had to buy or own. Making this such an expensive achievement, a very small amount of people got this item, and thus the price is low.
An other example: The Genuine AWPer hand. The item, when it was first released, was speculated to be worth twelve keys. Its price decreased to a small, wimpy key. Why? Simple, because so many people had taken air of new genuines being worth a lot, because little people got them, a lot of people pre-ordered the game just for the item. Having the game was just a 'bonus' to them. This effect plus the amount of people that actually wanted the game caused its price to drop.
The link that I gave to the specific part of backpack.tf shows a voting page. This is the main culprit, this is where satan experiments his rituals. As we speak, some douchebag is selling keys for a higher and higher price again. The current price is 4,33 - 4,55. Watch these few trades that I am going to display beneath.
5 Ref for a key - http://www.tf2outpost.com/search/97021899
4,77 per key, bot - http://www.tf2outpost.com/search/97021899
5 Ref per key, metal only - http://www.tf2outpost.com/search/97021899
5 Ref, note the comment - http://www.tf2outpost.com/search/97021899
These are only four trades from the first page. There is 20 pages, so 19 more. They take trades like I did, show that this price is what it is going for, and then they move on with a higher price.
It was stable a long time ago, but why? I'll tell you why, because backpack.tf wasn't the main source for pricelisting. It was the TF2 spreadsheet, until people (including me) started calling it the Spreadshit. There had been numerous rumours that the users of the spreadsheet would drop certain item prices with various keys or refined, then mass buy them and run the price back up again. The spreadsheet became unreliable, and backpack.tf was created. That's where it all went wrong.
I hope that explained it, if you think this group won't do anything then so be it; but I have faith in it. If it sheds enough light on the subject and gets enough followers, than it will atleast make a difference.
Thank you in advance.
