I don't think there's a thread for this already... there should be. It's probably the single best single player FPS out there. Feel free to, as the title suggests, discuss anything to do with Metroid, from Metroid to Super Metroid to Prime to Other M.

Anyway, I actually haven't played much Metroid, but about 3-4 years ago, I played Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on the Wii. I got to the stage where I could go to that final area, but got bored and stopped playing it. I recently started playing it again, and I'm at Bryyo. I've come to appreciate just how amazing the game is.

Also, just a final note: I remember that first big room of Bryyo when I was younger. For some reason, it was like a fucking Zelda puzzle to my brain, instead of a simple room. I still don't understand why it was that hard for me.

Metroid is probably my favorite game series of all time. I've played ever single game from the main timeline (Meaning, no games that had no true importance to story like Metroid Pinball) with the exception of metroid 2 and Hunters on the DS. If I had to pick a favorite game it'd have to be a tie between Prime 1 and 3. Which one I like more depends on my mood. Prime 2 and it's Dark Aether dimension just didn't quite seem to be all that unique. Now I'm not even close to saying that it's a bad game. All three of them a brilliant in their own ways.

Since I imagine there's going to be a discussion regarding Other M, I'll throw my opinion of it out right now. My thought is that it tried just too hard to be a movie. There were far too many cutscenes and not enough gameplay. The gameplay itself was new yet still fun, except for the awkwardness of trying to shoot missiles, and the fact you can dodge and pretty much never die if you mastered it. The new camera perspective added a much different and interesting atmosphere to the game while you played it, and allowed for newer possibilites. Now's the fun part. The thing almost everyone hated about the game was the personality that was given to Samus. If I were to give my honest opinion, they had their reasons to make her act as she did, but they still made those reactions excessive in some parts. (Yes, Ridley battle, I'm looking at you.) You have to consider the fact that this game takes place directly after Metroid 3. Samus had thought she killed Ridley for good, and the fact the thing that killed her parents is still alive and trying to kill her again caught her off guard. On the other note about how she mentions the baby metroid 500,000 times, they definitely overdid it on this aspect. Granted, it's pretty sad to see something sacrifice itself so you can live, expecially since it mistook Samus for it's mother. But it DOES NOT mean that it should be mentioned excessively throughout the entire game.

With all of these points, I find the game is a bit difficult to want to go back to, but I found my first playthrough an honestly enjoyable experience.
