I am making this thread so it can be a one stop place for all the updates that minecraft has and you can place all info that comes in. There used to be a thread for this before but it died from the lack of news before during and after Minecraft went full. Since Jeb is making weekly updates it would be nice to revive this great thread. This allows for a single thread instead of multiple threads and also allows for discussions of All of the updates as a whole.

Place any jeb/notch posts or tweets anything that will give us an insight into something new to Minecraft.

Current Version:
Minecraft 1.1
(http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Version_history)

Future Version:
Minecraft 1.2
(http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features)

Current Pre-Release:
Snapshot 12w08a

Try to label all updates you put in with links so you can to define different blocks and items placed into Minecraft. Minecraft wiki: (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecraft_Wiki)

Yes there was it is all connected with the big 1.2 update. Jeb just likes to name the pre-releases differently. Check on the 1.2 link i have above to see all of the pre-releases.

12w07a
  • World format changed for the second time, conned "Anvil", with an automatic world converter from the current "McRegion".
  • Maximum build height increased to 256 (was 128).
  • Empty sections of the world will not be loaded into memory.
  • Block ids increased to 4096 (is 256) by adding a 4 bit data layer (as of this snapshot it is only working for items).
  • Block ordering will be changed from x/z/y to y/z/x in order to improve compression.
  • Packets for sending chunks will be updated (a full 128-high chunk is smaller than the old format, and a chunk with lots of empty space is much smaller).
  • Biomes will be saved per x/z column, which means they can be altered by tools.
  • Light calculations in SMP take place client-side
  • Remaining animals were moved into new AI system.
  • Added Redstone Lamp ( http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Redstone_Lamp)
  • Decreased dropping chance for rare items
  • Villagers repopulate villages based on the number of houses
  • Zombies have a chance of attacking villages at night (part of the upcoming Sieges feature)
  • Villagers have children, which always sprint

I was hoping the old thread wasn't dead D:
But atleast we have a new one :D
Well, with MineCraft being 1.0 there were less updates. The Notch Blog Posts and MineCraft News sections on here gives most of the information the thread would have and things would have just kept on getting repeated.

Hmm... you were the last one to post in the old one >.>
