Have a nice day.

Anyway, this is just a discussion thread about The Hunger Games book/movie. I've read the entire trilogy and saw the movie earlier today. The movie sort of disappointed me with the changes they made from the book... Any thoughts/opinions on the movie?

It was actually pretty good, if you didn't expect it to follow the book exactly. But, yeah, I was still disappointed with some of the things they cut out/changed. Then again, the book's point of view was different than the movie's point a view. (First person to omniscient) It should be interesting to see how they do the sequel (if they do it) without some of that stuff from the first book. Movies are never as good as the books, though.

It's very likely they will make the remaining books in the trilogy (Catching Fire and Mockingjay) into movies, because of the scene with President Snow and Seneca. Remember when he asks Seneca why they have one victor and talks about hope? That pretty much foreshadows events that unfold in the second book. The thing I liked about the movie is how they added scenes (that weren't in the book) in the movie, particularly the scenes that included the Gamemakers' control room. I disliked how fast the movie went, but you can only put so much into two hours I guess.

They toned down some of the fight scenes, they were a bit more intense in the book. I guess they wanted the PG-13 rating, but most of the stuff in the book(s) is not really R worthy. Other then that I enjoyed it, some things were cut but movies based off of books never really follow the book to the tee.

Yeah, they tried to sanitize the movie so it would be more appropiate for younger viewers and generally less offensive, which takes most of the intensity away.

The movie looked rather disappointing and yes, sanitized. I'm also not entirely happy about the casting which is a pity because this book really had the sensation to hit the upper echelons of bookshelves worldwide.

The books themselves? I liked the first one, the entire battle royale theme it had going to it but with an increased level of survival/foraging. But following that? When it began to move into rebellion, etc in the later books? I wasn't terribly excited. It just seemed so cliche and predictable to follow that line of story. I feel it would of been best if it hadn't been done as a trilogy.

I read all the books, and watched the movie today. I actually thought the movie did fairly well. They took on a bit of a different perspective, and of course, they can't include everything from the book into the movie, but they did try. At some parts I did kinda feel that they just put events from the book in order into the movie.... But other parts were really well made. Meh, cast was not the best either though...

I loved the first book, second book was pretty good, third book was okay. It got too far from the main theme of the books, which was the hunger games.

The movie was not amazing, but because of the cool way they showed it, showing the gamemakers point of view, it wasn't bad.

Just finished the second book on the train.

I catch the appeal now of the entire rebellion scenario but to be quite frank, I was REALLY disappointed with the hunger games in the second one. It all felt rushed and lacked decent content. I Can understand why but i almost think it might of been worth dedicating a entire book to that hunger games, or not having it at all. Trying to sit on the fence left it kind of try and poor storytelling.

Also for some reason whenever i picture President Snow i cant stop thinking of the fucking Kentucky Colonel (but a bit smoother/thinner).

Edit - Ahh, i know why (NSFW)

(Agreeing with Malc, the second book was definitely my least favorite for all of those reasons.)

I was pleasantly surprised by the movie however. I have to say that it is the most faithful book to movie adaptation I have ever seen (actually, depending on how you take that, might not be saying much. Remember the lightning thief?). It managed to stay pretty close to the plot of the first book, though there were several things they omitted that is going to make things hard for them when doing the second movie (i.e. not taking away rues body with evil capitol helicopters, remember Wiress?). The part that I enjoyed far more, however, was that the things that they added weren't frilly and unneeded shit, but vital things for the transition from First Person to Omniscient. Especially liked the use of Caesar to explain things that Katniss did in the books.

Edit: Also:
PRIIIIIIIIIIIM
Edits edit: My only real problem with the movie was the shaky camera every now and then. That made it a bit hard to see.

Read the Books, Haven't seen the Movie.
I think that the first was great (Re-reading) Second good too, And Third was ok because:
1. Prim Dies which to me Katniss' Vollentering to save her life failed in the end.
2. A lot of other people die in the tunnels like Finnick who I liked.
But besides that its ok
