Howdy Folks!​


This is a friendly post that on June 10th, I will be leaving for Europe and will be gone for the remainder of the month. I'm looking forward to this trip, as it will be the first time I've ever been to this part of the world. I would normally post this in the Goodbye section of the forums and at a later time, however, I would like some feedback from my fellow Blocktopians for any advice, recommendations, etc that you would be willing to give to the Texan on how to make his experience better and safer. First, let me explain my trip in detail.

Below I have provided a map that shows the route I will be taking on my trip. The color of the lines represent the means that I will be traveling by, the red representing the approximate path of the cruise liner, and the yellow representing the path me and my sister will be taking as we backpack alone. The numbers represent the order in which we will be encountering each stop.

Cruise Portion (13 days)
  1. Arrive in Barcelona on June 10th and board the cruise ship
  2. Split, Croatia
  3. Venice, Italy
  4. Ravenna, Italy
  5. Naples, Italy: Pompeii
  6. Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy: St. Peters, Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, Coliseum.
  7. La Spezia (Florence/Pisa), Italy
  8. Monte Carlo, Monaco
  9. Barcelona, Spain
Backpacking Portion (12 days)

10. Flight from Barcelona to Warsaw, then back Southwest to Czestochawa to visit the Jasna Gory Monastery
11.Train to Warsaw: Old Town, St Johns Cathedral, Jewish Cemetery
12.Train to Krakow: Wawell Castle/Cathedral
13. Night train to Budapest: Buda Castle, Gellert Baths, St Stephens Basilica
14. Night train to Bucharest: Patriachal Cathedral
15. Night train to Istanbul: Blue Mosque, Spice Market, Hagia Sophia
16. Night train to Athens: Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, Hadrians Arch [/panel]

So yes, feel free to ask questions as well about my trip if you are curious. I apologize I can't stop by and see anyone, as time is limited, but feel free to make a shout-out about where you live and such.

Please post food recommendations, local customs, hazards, destinations, etc. Any information is good information, just keep in mind we're limited by time and money.

I can't really recommend too many english beers, I would however suggest a dabble in Magners Irish cider (Original, never pear) if you get the opportuntiy.

Also, Y NO ENGRAND. So many Blocktopians who live in the UK/need to meet up.

Also, if you get a decent chance, fish & chips = the way to go.

Oh, also

If you could smuggle san00b with you that'd be just great.

Haha, once I'm able to support myself decently I plan on returning and hitting Western Europe more, especially Spain and the Netherlands(My family \o/)
