Hahaha, that has happened to me before! It happened 2 maps ago in smp.

I just restarted my minecraft and it worked fine.

This used to happen me on a very old SMP map, except it wasn't Optifine, it was the minecraft client. It'd suddenly start loading chunks invisibly, it was very annoying
