Game Dev Tycoon

Game Dev Tycoon is an amazing game in which you need to create your own gaming company, and develop games & consoles. It's one of the best games I've ever played, and is number 2 on my favourite games list.

Watch this to basically see what the start of the game is:

No, it's not made by the same people and isn't like those games at all. I played Rollercoaster and Zoo tycoon 2, but they were really boring in comparison to this game.

Made game called Zombie Survival. It was highly successful one.
Did Call of Duty game, and its average rating was 4/10 XD
When I made Call of Duty, (AAA game with 3D graphics V7) it actually got 10/10, which was my first game ever to reach 10/10. It wasn't really a money maker though, only got me about 500 million... When I made Portal (A hacking/strategy MMO) and released about 4 expansions to it, it earned me about 300.000M ._. Before I made that game, I had around 3.000m...

Erm... my company went bankrupt at stage 2, is there way to avoid that?
And what engines are better: specialized or all-in-one?
I always make them all-in-one. Currently my latest engine ("Medusa 7.0") has every single research thing, including 2D graphics V6 and 3D graphics V7. It may cost a lot when creating this engine, but defenitely pays you back. And to avoid going bankrupt... well... make good games :p Get some nice combinations, think when you create your game, etc.

How often I should research game topic (that one for 10 points)? Per how many games? How often make all-in-one engines? How many money should I have before attempt of making medium game?

You should only make a new engine like every 5 new features you have (I wouldn't focus on getting topics, but other features) and defenitely everytime there's a newer, better graphic features. Game topics aren't too important. I would only start making medium games once you got around... 8 million?

Well... I'm not sure how. Experiment a little. You should know what type of games need what feature specialized (like, Action games need more A.I. than story and such)

I do that. Games have always score above of 5.

EDIT: Do you try to recreate real world games? If yes, then you do that in close proximity to actual release date?

I made a game called "Black Mesa" (which was a Hacking/Strategy game MMO, on which I released about 4 expansion packs) which got me something like 7000 million. Was quite funny, as all other games I produced after that got me pretty much nothing in comparison to this game.

Just beat the game yesterday :D

For peeps who are wondering how to get a lot of money, develop for the PC only, it will be the only platform that doesn't go away through the entire game, and it is also very cheap to make games for in comparison to the other options in the later stages. Not only that, but it is almost always in the top 3 for market share. Unfortunately, there is no way to "save" money as it will constantly decrease over time, knowing this, develop as many small games as possible as they will be your main source of income. Also, DON'T HIRE PEEPS TO WORK FOR YOU RIGHT AWAY. That is pretty much asking to go bankrupt as their wages will greatly increase your monthly expenses when you first unlock them. Instead, focus on small games, and when you get about 2 to 3 million in money, then you should start building up your fanbase by making larger games which in turn will cause your games to gather hype without having to spend money on marketing. A for your engine, switch to 3D as soon as you are able to, as those games tend to have higher ratings when they first come out. I wish the game lasted a little longer, but the experience was a good one, and I would be happy to pay for a sequel :D
