So, I was playing AoD when I was struck with a whopper of an idea!

Let's do this randomly. Say a person like me was banned from a server like RoF. And Yes, I'm using myself as an example, thank you Ogarci :3

Said banned person would never be able to play again on that server, but...what if they could WATCH it? You heard me right. Watch it.

Say that there's a plugin that could work with 1.6.2 Blocktopia Servers. It would feature blocks of glass as the cameras, and would provide live footage of things like the progression of people building their houses in Rituals of Fire. The cameras would be everywhere on the map, and would have to be stuck to blocks on the walls for people to see them. This plugin would also be used on Premium TNT to watch the action unfold, Army of Darkness to see the game from a different perspective, by that meaning seeing the locations of the hunters and what everyone is equipped with, and on Journey to Elysium and Rituals of Fire the cameras could be used to see if someone is hacking, griefing, and disrupting the server. There would also be live game chat broadcasted to the friendly watchers, as I shall call them. This would further help the rules be enforced, as the user would see if anyone was spamming or insulting someone else. Furthermore, the watchers could be able to speak in chat too, and alert Staff if trouble is a rising. I want to see if these concepts with one plugin could be accomplished. Let's all search to find such a plugin. If there isn't? I look to the Administrators, Sploorky, Malcovent, san00b, and none other than even our very own GmK to help program such a plugin along with the Developers, my old friend dirtcake, UltimateBudgie, destroyerx1, LISTINGS09, and GLaDOS. The Operators--for the first time in Blocktopian history, can do what they're name implies: They can be testers and find bugs, or flaws, in the system and report them to the Controllers and Developers. At The Head of the Operators and Veteran Operators (SalientGorilla, Dessern5, LagWarrior, Forseti, ClockworkMyr, Biblius, smokingkills, WiiGoGetter, Jammy001, Danni122112, Da Jinks, Prizyms, Jeff0521, NogTrog, DarkHender, tnmjimbob, Old_Man_Oak63, MikeTang, (Yes, That One :3) FrenchSanta12, and ealev to name most,) can be the Controllers, RonaldoSkillz and Infected_alien8_, who will basically boss them around which is pretty sweet(lol), but they will also answer to bug problems and talk to the Developers about it. Now you're probably wondering, how can everyone ELSE help?

The Answer?

Anticipation. Nothing but pure anticipation and Excitement fuels huge, ungodly projects like this. It's how inventions like a space shuttle was created, people ANTICIPATED to see the moon close-up, people were EXCITED for the twelve lucky cosmonauts like Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, because they were going to take one step, and it was both small and huge. It's the same sort of drive here.
So, if you're excited at the possibility that this could be created, then smash the like button. smash it 'till it comes loose from the webpage!(lolwut) Tell everyone and their friends to visit this very article you're reading right naow.

And REMEMBER:

I Want YOU. (lolwut unclesam reference?ok)
EDIT: Good. Lord. Why are so many people arguing? I thought this idea would be generally FAVORABLE.
EDIT 2: This concept has been changed so that It'll be geared towards Regular Players.

Let's Get this Party Started.

You're suggesting we make a plugin so people can sit and watch others play a game they could easily play them selves?
No, I'm suggesting to you that we should make a plugin for people who are banned from servers and want to still enjoy being on that server in a way. We should also hopefully make it so that it allows everyone on said plugin to chat with people that are in-game. :D

I don't see the point, if they wanna continue playing then they can appeal or shouldn't have been banned in the first place.

What's the purpose of banning a player if they can still enjoy the game by watching others play? That defeats the main purpose of banning someone.
I think not, dear friend. Banning someone just means that they can't PLAY on that server, but with this plugin, they can still join in on the chat, which is always the best part of it. Also, there may be quick switching between watching on RoF, PTNT, AoD, JtE, and Build Box.

Here I disagree. If we allow them to communicate with those that are in-game, it might ruin the experience because look at it this way; trolls, spammers and people who are constantly annoying would be ruining the server. They could however be able to communicate between themselves.

When I Say "Banned", I mean Perma-banned. But at least with this, they can still come on and enjoy being with the others in chat if they're not gonna be arseholes again.

This is a problem, however there will be another set of rules for the plugin, including no spamming, racism, flaming, trolling, etc.

And also, there may or may not be another plugin for that, but I am getting WAY too ahead of myself.

Do we really want people who are perm-banned interacting with people on the server they were banned on? I knew people who were banned, I've banned people, and I've had former friends globally banned from the community, and there are good reasons, when you catch someone with their hands in the cookie jar you don't let them leave their grubby hands in the jar. This idea would be fine were it not oriented towards banned players, it would have far less problems, but this is something more for tournaments and stuff like that, even so this is still flimsy and really just seems like more hassle than it's worth.

How about this, then: They break the rules on there too much, then they're bulldozed. Globally banned. Why such a harsh punishment? Because of technicality. They are breaking the rules on technically 3 servers at once because they (the servers) will have hot tabs. Also, maybe a split screen with camera switching every so often.

I disagree with the idea users who are permabanned/banned for good reason can use this to enjoy the servers when they did something to get themselves permabanned. Though, I know alot of people watch livestreams due to not having the means to play the game at a time/wanting to check out a new server without going on it/seeing how certain people play the game, and like the idea of livestreams happening, but don't see a plugin needed when normal players can do so easily!

I think you misunderstand my point. Implementing such a thing for banned users could cause people not to take rules seriously, because they feel that they can still be a part of the game even if they are banned. People wouldn't even care if they got banned or not. Banning is a punishment. It's like a student being expelled or suspended in school. If they can still continue going to school to "watch" others even after being expelled/suspended, it defeats the whole purpose.

That's exactly the idea of this plug-in, Jinks. Give people another chance to be with the community if they have resolved what caused their problems leading them to get permabanned.

No, you completely misunderstand the point. A Global ban can range from the acts on one or more servers (or forums, irc, TS) that warrants a permanent ban on all servers, the forums, and I believe IRC and TS, Global bans are not given out lightly or really all that often. Permbans are different, but most permbans are usually for repeat offenders or for behavioral reasons and your plan is to let these people continue to chat and view the game, this is essentially IRC with a camera, in game IRC has always (as far as I now) been reserved for staff+ and even from IRC staff can't kick or use in game commands unless they are actually in game. Really, the only way I could see this working is if were a live stream of gameplay with a one way chat room (ingame chat to chatroom) that was filtered a monitored by staff much like an actual livestream.

Ok, let me resolve some things. Break the rules on this plugin, you're banned from it. Simple enough. This plugin is for banned people that want another chance but can't be given it the normal way.

Instead of directly quoting my post and calling it "illogical", why don't you explain why it is illogical?
Alright, let's use your instance. The student is expelled, but he can still talk to his friends from outside the school premises because he isn't actually ON the premises.

Permanent bans are just that, permanent. You're cut off from the server, and if you got permanently banned, you probably messed up pretty badly.(There have been cases of permanent bans being pardoned, but that is besides the topic at hand.)

I don't like the idea of setting up a plugin with the sole purpose of giving banned players something to watch. It seems illogical and counterproductive to me.

Plus I'm very much doubting this is possible in any way. Who knows, I could be wrong though.

First off, the banned players watching is completely stupid.

If other players (unbanned) want to see what's going on at the server why don't they just login and play? We have Operators to moderate griefing, hacking, and rule breaking.

I don't even think is possible anyway.
Eugh. This is for Perma-banned people who can't go on but still want to join the fun, alright? There will be monitoring Staff for this plugin, and they will be hand-picked. Enough Said.

1) I think that hamburger vote was a bad idea, as most people are just voting for that just to vote for that. (But from what I can see, Hamburger=No at this point)
2)I really don't see a reason for this. Banned players, especially perma-banned players, are usually banned for a reason. And who would really want to just sit there and watch other people play on a server they were banned from. The players who actually want to play will be sure to make an appeal and follow the rules in the future so they will make something of their second chance, if they're smart at least.
