Just wanted to say it isn't a *perfect* anime. It has its flaws, which mostly came from the possibilities they put to waste. Makes it seem like the story was rushed a bit, which is sad because the anime had a lot of potential. K1ngHoward

Completely agree. It felt very rushed with the multiple time skips and the length of the anime itself. I expected going into it to have 24 episodes of SAO then ALO would be another 24 or 14 episodes. Many problems with SAO could have been fixed with more episodes with each arc.
One theory i have toyed around with about the compaction of the two arcs is that the studio realized ALO was the weaker of the arcs so it paired it with the SAO arc to improve the entire series as a whole. If ALO itself was its own season it may have tanked the franchise since it is the weakest arc in the Light Novel series (or so i have heard). It is a smart move if that was their plan. :3
If they would've kept SAO as its own season (which is definitely could have been) and found some way to pair ALO with something else... maybe the computer system went haywire and since it had so much power, it completely changed the game, so the players had an entirely different challenge ahead of them. Like the world literally falling apart, changed, and attacked the players as foreign entities. Now that I typed that out... that could be its own season xD. How about just drop the ALO arc all together. :D
ALO arc is still important though since it is a part of the series and cements the relationship between Asuna and Kirito. It also gave him the power and strength to return to using the nerve gear to continue the future arcs as well. Though ALO is a weak arc it plays a very strong role in connecting SAO and any future arcs together. How brave do you have to be to put on the same technology that held you captive for all those years to have a small chance to save the girl you love?

F.. Fi... Finished "School Days"
For those without a strong body or mind please, i beg you, do not watch. This anime stressed me out. Every character in it i hate, i have a head ache, the ending was justified, but disturbing as all hell, and it takes a strong will to get through it. I barely survived this ordeal without, punching my computer screen, or boiling over with anger at everyone in the show.
This anime has become my "Most Hated Anime"
Time to find a comedy to make me less depressed and angry...
If School Days is really that bad, I kind of want to watch it.

Woooow that's an ending and a half. It didn't really look disturbing, though, it just looked like another anime bloodbath that happened for no reason.

I watch SAO because I've always been seeking adventure from somewhere else, and as a gamer a Virtual Reality is the coolest place to find it.

The ALO arc was not that bad, nor was it totally unimportant or a reason to drop it altogether. I consider it a bonus, and really its more SAO and its not terrible - what more could we ever ask for?
Ya I read a pretty nasty review about it, but I decided to say nothing since I though you probably knew where you were gonna watch lol. I dropped School Days after reading all the hate reviews. I checked some spoilers and I was like WTF IS DIS SHIET.
Edit: Finished Hanasaku Iroha. It's worth watching but I would not consider it as a seinen. But ya, if you like drama and slice of life with no supernatural stuff, this anime is for you.
Currently watching Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai.

What I'm saying is that because of the ALO arc, they had to find a way to fit it somewhere, which really just felt hamfisted (is that a thing? I'm making that a thing) They had to shorten the other arc so they didn't get a chance to use the amazing opportunities they had to make a great anime. Such as more character development/exploring the environment/the 60-70 floors we didn't see/the fact that people seem to forget that the entire game is out to kill them, asides from Sachi (at least kirito, which might be due to him being so OP). I don't think it is necessarily a bad anime, I just don't think it was executed right.
That's another example of them having to shorten the series, the could have made that a major plot point, which they seemed to be leaning towards but they just had him put on the helmet after looking at it after saying "A game you can't die in is just too easy".

No, I think they could slow it down, yet still show Asuna's change of heart. Or maybe the speedups were the only way, but only because she rarely ever sees Kirito, let alone talks to him, considering the second time they partied was 2 years after their first time in Episode 2.
ALO deserved its own Arc, if it was in with SAO it would make SAO even shorter, I'd think?

This show is quite like Spice and Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou) they are both made by the same studio, and the voice actors are the same for both shows. It was one of my favorites to watch, can't wait for a season 2.

I've noticed that there aren't many people around here that read manga. Thus, I would like to share with you guys a fantastic manga that I had found last year. Psst, yes I know. However most anime are adaptations of mangas. It wouldn't hurt to share one.
Liar Game
Yup. That's it. You pretty much guessed what the whole plot is about. A scrupulously honest college student, Kanazaki Nao, has been cheated into entering a tournament when she unintentionally opens an envelope containing the tournament's invitation. However, it isn't a normal tournament, it's a tournament where players lie to survive. On the brink of losing the first round, she begs for the help of a con man, Akiyama whom he eventually accepts for unknown reasons. Akiyama turns out to be a huge asset to her as they fought their way through the rounds, made enemies and turned enemies into allies, faced opponents of similar level, and won the rounds one by one (okay I lied, not all of them).
Reasons why you should read this:
---> Liar Game is something you can read in your leisure time, taking your own sweet time, and you won't even feel pressurised to catch up to the present chapters within 3 days because the latest chapter is taking a hell of a time to be uploaded. Plus, reading in a few days is a big no-no. Liar Game is the type of manga where they overload you with information. You'll definitely want to give your eyes and brain a break if you rush everything. Trust me, you will feel so dumb after reading this manga c:
---> It isn't some shounen or shoujo manga,no protagonists stripping at the sight of water (coughs) or screaming after the titans I mean it is something that is pure serious, no fan-service, no jokes and no touchy romance. Sounds boring isn't it? Just wait till you read it, and it will leave you screaming for more. Though there isn't much romance, what I really love about this manga is that it takes time to develop the relationships and personalities of the characters. [!Spoiler but not really spoiler] The characters grow on you, and you'll see that the bond between the two protagonists grow stronger and stronger, and they gradually get affected by one another. Nao becomes more cunning, while Akiyama becomes more caring.
---> The plots are legit. They are not some messily or lazily planned plots, but plots that actually took time and effort from the mangaka. It's like reading the unabridged version of Sherlock Holmes (no comparison made here), so much effort and thinking put in that you are bewildered about how the characters managed to think like that. Their game strategies twist your mind in the most cunning way possible like some muscular housewife twisting wet clothes to squeeze out the water(I'M NOT SURE HOW I CAME UP WITH THAT I'M SORRY and yep that's the best imagery for what will happen to your brain afterwards).

I know some stuff I said are over-exaggerated, but tl;dr: It is just a psychological seinen drama mystery manga with good character developments and good plots and something serious. Trust me. It really is.

The following can potentially ruin part of the experience of watching the anime;(unfortunately it is also my main arguing point for watching it) read at your own risk.
Ok so, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic is basically an anime about The three main characters, Aladdin, Alibaba, and Morgiana and how they fight evil. The thing is, evil is not necessarily presented in the typical main villain you might expect. There are bad guys, but they channel the power of a type of evil magic. The evil magic convinces people to curse their fate in favor of destruction. The goal of the main villains is to "liberate" people from their fates, no matter the circumstances that may involve.
To combat this evil, we have Aladdin:
Most adorable motherfucker ever created - this guy is always happy, always looking for the silverlining. This is important because that will to continue on, to be so positive and optimistic, is the direct counter to the evil magic:
On their many ADVENTURES Aladdin, Alibaba, and Morgiana encounter this concept multiple times and have to grow as people to avoid being consumed by hate and bitterness.
This is what I find so great about Magi, it literally applies directly to real life, like I mentioned earlier, the main points to avoid evil magic are being positive and optimistic. Magi says that you can change your position in life as long as you continue to give your best efforts to move forwards.
Magi also links heavily to adventuring and I don't think I need to talk on and on about why that's the best thing ever:

It sounds like you enjoyed it. I haven't watched (or read your spoiler, by the way), but i will probably highlight the show as the next thing for me to watch. A new season is coming out this Fall (probably October) so keep your eye out for that. :3

Finished "Date a Live"
Date a Live reminded me a lot about "The world God only knows" bringing a dating game into real life for the main character to win the hearts of "Spirits" to stop them from destroying the world. When "Spirits" appear on the earth they cause spacial quakes that cause massive damage to the land (equivalent to a bomb or missile). Shidou is found to be the only person to be able to seal the powers of these spirits in his body and must help seal their powers to save them from being annihilated by the AST. An all girl militia in sexy robotic space gear hell bent on shooting spirits first and asking questions later. It is up to Shidou to seal the spirit's powers and get them into hiding before the spirits are eliminated.
The show contains many battle sequences and executes them pretty well between the romance Shidou needs to go through to win the ladies' hearts. Though "Date a Live" is labeled as a romantic comedy, it seemed to be lacking in the comedy except for the great reaction faces that the characters were drawn with to express their emotions.
"Mature Content Warning" because of the sheer amount of skin exposed on screen. [Rated: R+]
