First off I think it might not even be necessary for the cop to investigate one of the confirmed innos. Just publicly posting a list would be useful for the town since one of them is likely to die sooner or later. As for notty's idea of no-lynching I don't think it is a good idea. Every day we don't lynch scum is an opportunity wasted for us and an increase in their odds of winning.

I agree with you on the no-lynch thing, but on the other hand we would currently stab wildly in the dark for any kind of lynch, which also isn't ideal.

I do agree though that the Cop should investigate one of the 4. if he gets 'innocent' he knows he is sane, if he gets 'guilty' he knows he is paranoid. And that's extremely important for the cop to know ;)

(assuming everybody claimed correctly, as Notty said)

We did just cross 4 names of the list of potential mafia without lynching someone. So I think we pretty much put this day to a good use and decreased their odds of winning alot. And I'm not saying we don't do anything, I'm saying that instead of us during the day, that the Swat Officer kills someone during the night.

This way, the kill won't be influenced by the mafia/supernaturals. And since we basicly would have to make a shot in the dark if we lynch, it's better that that shot in the dark is made by someone not influenced by the mafia/supernaturals.

Ok then. The No Lynch thing is in my opinion not the smartest idea notty has put forward. As myuser already said, it would hurt the town's chances. Don't believe me? It's simple math. With every town lynch we increase our chances of lynching scum the next day and with every scum lynch, well, I think that's self-explanatory.

What it seems like to me, is that notty is trying to roll responsibility off himself and onto the shoulders of the SWAT officer. The SWAT would be taking the same shot in the dark as we would by lynching someone, and if we have an option that does one of the following: increases town's chances of lynching scum next day or kills off scum, then I see no reason not to take it. Only situation in which a No Lynch is justified, in my opinion, is Mislynch and Lose, which we obviously don't have at the moment.

So with that, with notty trying to roll responsibility off himself and trying to hurt the town's chances in the process, I just got my first FoS of the game.

This isn't helping us. 'Oh the cop should do this' 'oh the swat can do this' we don't know they have any better information than us. Every time you play mafia could require taking a bit of a shot in the dark. I'm not suggesting randomly stabbing into the darkness but I think we should talk about our own game not the game of some of our specific and unnamed power roles. Perhaps point a few fingers here take some time to discuss it, not just give up our part hoping someone else can do it.

"if we have an option that does one of the following: increases town's chances of lynching scum next day or kills off scum, then I see no reason not to take it."
Time for Math! =D. Right now 5/19 people are scum. This is a total of 26% chance we lynch a scum. So let's lynch one of the confirmed Regular Guests. Then the next day 5/18 people are scum. This is a 28% chance we lynch a scum that day. So let's lynch one of the Regular Guests since it increases our chance to lynch a scum the next day!

I know, this is a totally stupid example but I just wanted to point it out. Since the Swat Officer killing someone instead of us does exactly the same as lynching someone today. The only thing diffrent is indeed that the Swat Officer would be taking the same shot in the dark. But the Swat Officer won't be influenced/misdirected by the mafia. While during the day, the Mafia can misdirect the lynch to one of the town PR's.

Still think that No Lynch is pretty stupid, but you explain yourself enough to calm down my scumradar.

Still, I think that the night can't bring us much new info, unless the SWAT or the Bartender strike lucky. Which isn't too likely to happen. The cop won't know anything, because either he investigates a claimed guest and finds out if he's sane or not, or investigates a PR and doesn't know if the investigated player is scum or not.

I still have nobody to vote, but I sure ain't going to vote for No Lynch, because I never believe it to be a good idea.

~WARNING~ I'm on my iPad. There will definitely be typos.

I can see the reason in a no lynch, but I can also see the reason in lynching someone. I'd personally go with lynching someone who ISN'T a confirmed person (me, ooglie, ltin and <crap I forgot the other I'm sorry don't hate me>). I would explain more as to why not, but it would probably give mafia the best idea for them and I don't think that would be a smart decision. If you guys really want me to post it, then tell me, but I won't for now.

As for the cop, I think they should investigate on of the confirmed. It would then tell us which cop they are, sane or paranoid. Once they know which one they are, they should move on the the PR's and once they find (if paranoid) a supernatural or mafia then to out and let us lynch them. If they're the sane however, it will only be once they find a mafia.

Let's hope std was sane cop! ~crosses fingers~

I'd like to point out your math is off. Why do the confirmed innocents only exist when you want them to? There are 5 mafia plus 3 third party that equals 8 now since the people the shot in the dark would be aimed at wouldn't include the 4 innocents it's 8/15 slightly over 50% chance we take out scum.

Though honestly it seems you've forgotten this game isn't about random shots in the dark. that would only mean a random outcome. The idea is to discuss things for a while until someone slips up further increasing the odds higher of the town lynching scum.

Also by lynching someone rather than swat killing them we give vital power roles a chance to defend themselves and share any information they learned where as had they just been killed off the information would've been lost.

Whilst it is not a final theory yet, I just want to point out something I mentioned already a page or so before:

Notty pushes for the "Everybody claim" idea, we all follow.

We now know almost certain who isn't a power role - giving the Mafia a better list of whom they can kill to get a PR for sure (since you want to get rid of those first usually)

Next, Notty pushes for No-Lynch (under the SWAT idea disguise) which would now enable Mafia to securely get a kill during the night of a PR (if not blocked, etc.) without the risk of one of them being lynched accidently during the day.

To me, this seems just quite conveniently set up by Notty in order to aid Scum...

I was making a point that no matter who you kill the chances you lynch a mafia the following day is always higher.

I've not forgotten, and if you would like to start a discussion about things feel free to start. I however don't know what we would really be discussing about.
Also by lynching someone rather than swat killing them we give vital power roles a chance to defend themselves and share any information they learned where as had they just been killed off the information would've been lost.
The only one with actual vital information is the cop. But the cop doesn't know if he/she is sane or not so that information means nothing today. What other vital information is there that you want to know before the PR dies?

That would be a terrible idea, I would cross off 4 people of the list of potential scum to eventually get 1 free kill? And it's not really 1 free kill since the Swat Officer still kills someone.

Right after I posted my post about half an hour ago or so, I was thinking exactly what GmK said (but had to do some stuff around the house so didn't have a chance to post it).
Notty seems to have a lot of power, we all followed Notty on the claiming idea, and it gives the Mafia an exact list of who could do them damage.

(I've got a bit of time now to sit down again, hence why the post)

*Hates you*

Anyway, I dont think I will be voting no lynch today, kind of seems a waste of an opportunity to smoke out some mafia. Not really much leads considering other than some strategic posts from Notty, Ender and others, the bulk of the people playing have made mainly two posts (including me) : "oh no cop is dead *weeps*" and "I am a regular/not regular guest". So umm :c

It also guarantees a 0% chance that you, Ooglie, Ltin or Hype will ever be lynched. Thus also increasing the chance to find scum during the day by alot. And while PR's are dangerous, it's even more dangerous for the mafia to have people around who have 0% chance of being lynched. Especially in the late game.

That's true I suppose, but the mafia might just kill us off, so there's no confirmed.

Now, the mafia during the night could go one of two ways.
They could kill one of the innocents (me, ooglie, ltin or hype) leaving the rest of the town with NO idea who is who, what is what
OR
They could kill off one of the PR's (whether it be a supernatural or town) leaving the confirmed (me, ooglie, ltin or hyper) with little clues and nothing to go off apart from the day talks.

I didn't want to say these earlier, they came to me at different times. But now that I've posted them together, whichever way they go would affect the town badly. Of couse, that will be up the the mafia, whichever they choose. They both have an extremely bad outcome for us townies, but we can't handle that. They have to do what they have to do to win

I'm sorry if I'm just sort of blabbing on, it's been a long weekend

If they kill one of the innocents, the PR's won't be hit and therefor can do their PR stuff.

The day talks is exactly what we have to go off if we are gonna lynch someone today x). But if a PR dies, the confirmed still pose a big threat to the mafia.

And blabbing on is good, lots of conversation is good =D

I was just sort of expressing what I was thinking about what would happen over night with the mafia death.

I think we also need to remember the supernaturals, and the damage they could possibly do.

None of them can kill exceot the siren, and the siren has to be lucky enough to choose a person that visits him.
That is true. So it's not that much of a worry, but of course if the cop visits the Siren then.. then it'd be extremely difficult to us. At least we'd only have one killing party (going against us, there's the swat officer also) that would do us damage on purpose

Even if the cop visits the Siren, the Siren would also have to "visit" the cop the same night. That's a very small chance =P.

So yeah, only the mafia is to worry about and they can only do 1 kill each night. The Alien is something to worry about too, but only later in the game.
