Note: Headphones or Earplugs are required for this to work.
Warning: Two of these frequencies (Beta and Theta) have additional health and safety risks. Please read the big red warning text associated with those frequencies before proceeding. I will not be held responsible for you not being able to read big red warnings.
I'm going to cut out the scientific crap. Take this wikipedia excerpt.
[article=Wikipedia]Binaural beats, or binaural tones, are auditory processing artifacts, or apparent sounds, caused by specific physical stimuli. This effect was discovered in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove and earned greater public awareness in the late 20th century based on claims coming from the alternative medicine community that binaural beats could help induce relaxation, meditation, creativity and other desirable mental states. The effect on the brainwaves depends on the difference in frequencies of each tone: for example, if 300 Hz was played in one ear and 310 in the other, then the binaural beat would have a frequency of 10 Hz.[/article]
Basically artificial brainwaves that are a great way to get more creative, fall asleep easily or other things.

[accordion]
{slide=Alpha}Alpha brainwaves are basically for relaxing and such. They help improve general mood, relief from sleep, get rid of headaches and even improve learning ability greatly. They are great for learning, or simply relaxing.

{/slide}

{slide=Beta [WARNING]}Beta brainwaves are for stress and highered focus.
Listening to these increases focus, problem solving, conscious thinking and better attention.

WARNING: BETA BRAINWAVES CAN HAVE NEGATIVE EFFECTS IF USED TOO LONG. PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE IF YOU ARE ALREADY STRESSED OR ANXIOUS. FURTHERMORE, DO NOT USE THESE FOR LONGER THAN 60 MINUTES IN 48 HOURS. DOING SO MAY RESULT IN:
- MUSCLE PAIN
- ANXIETY
- PARANOIA
- HEADACHES
IF YOU GET ANY OF THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS WHILE LISTENING. STOP LISTENING IMMEDIATELY. IF EFFECTS PERSIST. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR.

{slide=Delta}Delta brainwaves are for better relaxation, even more than Alpha. They help get restful sleep, relaxation, relief against headaches and migrained, less stress and on top of that it works as a natural painkiller too!

{/slide}

{slide=Theta [WARNING]}Theta is for intense relaxation. Theta brainwaves commonly occur when sleeping and can induce lucid dreams. They reduce the amount of sleep needed, also allows deeper sleep, higher focus and creativity and a very high state of consciousness.

WARNING: USING THETA BRAINWAVES WHILE TRYING TO STAY AWAKE CAN CAUSE SLEEP PARALYSIS. DURING THIS YOU ARE UNABLE TO MOVE YOUR MUSCLES AND YOUR EYES MAY CAUSE HALLUCINATIONS. FURTHERMORE WHEN ABRUPTLY QUITTING LISTENING TO THESE MAY CAUSE A SHOCK FEELING. PLEASE SLOWLY TURN DOWN THE VOLUME WHEN STOPPING. IF YOU HAVE HEART PROBLEMS: I ADVISE YOU TO NOT LISTEN TO THESE.

Do not be scared by the potential safety issues. If you use them properly they can be quite handy.

I actually just discovered delta binaural beats a few weeks ago. I use them right before I sleep and they seem to help me relax a lot. On some of the different frequencies, there are different descriptions of what they do:
•0.5 Hz - Relaxation, helps soothe headaches
•0.5 - 1.5 Hz - Pain relief. Endorphin release
•0.9 Hz - Euphoric feeling
•1 Hz - Well being. Harmony and balance
•2.5 Hz - Production of endogenous opiates (pain killers, reduce anxiety) •2.5 Hz - Relieves migraine pain. Produces endogenous opiates
•3.4 Hz - Helps achieve restful sleep
•3.5 Hz - Feeling of unity with everything. Whole being regeneration
•3.9 Hz - Self renewal, enhanced inner awareness
•4.0 Hz - Enkephalin release for reduced stress
•4.0 Hz - Allows brain to produce enkaphalins, all natural pain killer
•4.0 Hz - Full memory scanning. Releases enkephalins
•4.0 Hz - Vital for memory and learning. Problem solving, object naming •1 - 3 Hz - Profound relaxation, restorative sleep. Tranquility and peace
In all honesty, the only "feeling" I get from listening to any of these is relaxation. Not sure if they actually do as stated, but all of these will work if you want to fall asleep.

It's all theoretical, there hasn't been much scientific study into it. Even if it is merely a placebo effect, it still works.

Slightly related, this artist is famous for having 'sleep concerts' where people would go listen to the music to sleep. I put this album on every now and then when I need to really get a good night's rest.
Listening to it as I write this. It feels like I'm being hypnotized, lol. Its very relaxing for some reason. I think I might just fall asleep right here.
Hmm so it can work as lullaby :p
Well in these articles it was said, that it can make some people want sleep.

Even if it'd be nocebic then it still works because considering it is bullshit: The effects are still real for those who believe it is real. So don't ruin it cx.

Even while it didn't help me sleep i actually did start getting happier listening to alpha.

Only Alpha didn't get me to sleep.

Also there is a Gamma frequency but i couldn't find it in clear lines what it actually does. anyone?

I'd try this out, but I just can't sleep with my headphones on. Or even earphones. They'll kill me, I tell you.

I'm personally not one to use these kind of things, but I do know some people that do... I think. I believe it does work, but only for some people. Much like how some people can't sleep unless they have the fan on, or the TV's white noise, or just some background sound of some kind. For me, I think I need to hear my computer running in the background, or I'm just restless. x3

Well you do hear a hum slightly similiar to a PC so i guess that works.

You're an artist right? Some of these help improve creativity: You can use them for those reasons too cx

Sadly, I don't see that working for me. xD

I'll try it out sometime, if anything, but I usually like listening to certain music as I draw, or finding the right song for musical inspiration.

I asked on some more savvy forums about it, and they said, that it can only work for lucid dreaming and concentration. Also it may be good as lullaby.

It WONT increase your IQ or creativity - it may be helpful at doing stuff, as you are more concentrated.

Also can be used as "sound drug" lol

Now this may sound hypocritical but bare with me here. Do you really believe random forums on the internet?

From what I've read online, negative symptoms can include: impaired hearing, reduced sex drive, insomnia, nose pressure, headaches, psychosis. Keep in mind that this is only anecdotal.

Reported positive effects include: increased focus, alertness, relaxation (depending on the frequency), enhanced 'creativity', goes well with meditation

There probably are some threads on longecity or other sites you may want to read.

I don't think there has been any evidence reported by controlled studies, but I might be wrong. This is from 2012:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22496862

[spoilerbb]Abstract

Binaural beats are an auditory phenomenon that has been suggested to alter physiological and cognitive processes including vigilance and brainwave entrainment. Some personality traits measured by the NEO Five Factor Model have been found to alter entrainment using pulsing light stimuli, but as yet no studies have examined if this occurs using steady state presentation of binaural beats for a relatively short presentation of two minutes. This study aimed to examine if binaural beat stimulation altered vigilance or cortical frequencies and if personality traits were involved. Thirty-one participants were played binaural beat stimuli designed to elicit a response at either the Theta (7 Hz) or Beta (16 Hz) frequency bands while undertaking a zero-back vigilance task. EEG was recorded from a high-density electrode cap. No significant differences were found in vigilance or cortical frequency power during binaural beat stimulation compared to a white noise control period. Furthermore, no significant relationships were detected between the above and the Big Five personality traits. This suggests a short presentation of steady state binaural beats are not sufficient to alter vigilance or entrain cortical frequencies at the two bands examined and that certain personality traits were not more susceptible than others.[/spoilerbb]

Edit: woops, wrong one (still relevant)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23085086
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3322125/

I often read that it takes up to 30 minutes on the right frequency to work for some people, which these studies tend to ignore. If I remember correctly, there was one study which showed that experienced meditators significantly benefit more from binaural beats.

Personally too risky (prone to psychosis) and not scientifically backed up for me. If it works you, all the better. There are also nootropics, if you're interested in this kind of thing; I advise a healthy dose of scepiticism and common sense though.

Rightio. Pretty much as Biblius said, it's all theory. These can basically have the same effect as listening to music while sleeping or studying or working out, or other activities which in many cases (of course depending on the song) can help your activity.

While there is no "definite" scientific study that these work, (for good or bad) or do not work it can also solely depend on the listener as to whether or not they shall. All 4 waves are also created naturally in your brain throughout your day; which can lead to some conclusions on how people believe they help.

Beta waves occur mainly while awake.
Alpha while in Stage 1 sleep (the time of period where you're not entirely asleep but it can seem like it)
Mix of Alpha/Theta in Stage 2 sleep
Mix of Theta/delta while in Stage 3 sleep. (All 3 stages of sleep being REM)
Lastly, pure delta waves are largely found in stage 4 deep sleep, NON-REM.

But it still comes down to the fact if this is nocebic or not.
For you who do not know what Nocebic effects or Placebo's are. Just watch this video by CGPGrey:

Sounds like a proper 'rob me' concert where you get a bunch of people together in a scattershot area of seats and each of them loot the seats next to you, no thanks.
