Endal was holding on to the Guardian of Wind with all his might (which wasn't very much to begin with), and still he felt like he was slipping away into the vast expanse between him and the ground. He thought that Airis had said something, but the priority was to keep himself alive, not to listen to the mumblings of a madman, because what else could he be, bringing them up to such heights.
They passed through a cloud. Airis must've been really concentrated on following the breeze, not even going around or over or under such a small cloud, but just for a minute, Endal felt a little easier, since he couldn't see the ground. He also noticed his hands getting slippery from the water packed in the cloud. He just noticed it a fraction of a second too late.
Endal's hands slipped on Airis's bare skin, having easened his grip due to the cloud. When he figured out what was happening, he was already ten feet below the flying Guardian.
The wizard screamed like a little girl. Not that he'd admit it later, of course.
Endal was expecting a rough landing. Airis had snapped out of his concentration bubble too late, and even though he was racing towards the falling Guardian as fast as he could while carrying his sister, Endal knew he wasn't gonna make it in time. He braced himself for the impact...
...but it never came. The wizard had instictively created a purpleish forcefield below him, which lessened the negative implications of falling a kilometre significantly. Endal thought for a second he had landed on a giant pile of pillows.
"...oh, yeah... I can do that, right," the wizard said when the initial rush of panic had faded. Airis touched down with Alouette just as the Guardian of Magic got back on his feet. The winged Guardian was just about to say something when Endal noticed human figures in the distance behind Airis.
"Hey, Alouette. I think I just found your boyfriend," he said with his legs still wobbly from leftover fear. If he'd had sunglasses, this would've been the perfect time to slip them on.
