Hi All,

as part of a recent request we included the steam integration addon to our forums - allowing you to sign in using steam.

This also comes with the option to show a steam profile underneath a users name, however, the member cards are so cluttered at the moment that I feel it's becoming excessive.

Shown below is what it would look like if steam profiles are shown by names, what I would like to ask is
- Is this something our users want.
- If so, do we agree that the member card is too long.
- If so, what should be removed to allow the steam profile card to be added?

I think we need to find some way to cut back the profile status, maybe by ending it in ... after a certain amount of characters and making people go to their user page to read it fully.

The Steam card looks out of place on the user profile. Are we able to edit our CSS to make it fit in better?

Nice one with the Steam Sign In though :)

Do we really need to have messages, trophy points, join date, etc. on there? People can simply click your name to see all of this if they really wanted to see it. Most of the stuff, especially join date, is something that really only people will look at once. Messages and ratings would be the only things I'd care to keep on there as they have more to do with posting than the other two.

Anyways, a benefit I'd see to having this is if people have different names on Steam than ER. It'd be a little easier to distinguish between the two if people wanted to find them on there and such. If not having this on the user cards then having them on profiles would be an alternative (if possible.) Either way, it'd be pretty nice to have.

I think that showing the Steam profile would be nice, yes. It's certainly more useful than most of anything else that's displayed on the member card. And yes, I also think that the member card will become way too cluttered if we add it and take nothing away.

Personally, I believe that the status messages can go, along with the join date and trophy points. They can all be checked if you bother to click on the user's name, and they're not exactly needed or important in any way. Besides, status messages take up way too much room on the card, so even by removing that alone we'll most likely make enough room for the Steam profile.

Message count should stay, imo. I don't exactly have any reasonable argument to support it, but I feel that it's much more related to the forums and your content on the forums than the stuff that I support removing. Same thing for ratings, although if I had to choose between ratings or message count staying, I'd choose the message count.

I don't like having all the info removed, I like being able to see join date, messages and ratings. Even trophy points look nice in there. Currently there is this green triangle-ish thing top-left of the avatar when someone is online. Can't we have one of those things on the top-right for when someone is online on steam? And if possible make that a link to their steam profile.

If not possible, I like Jivvi's idea of making another line of text saying "Steam: Online/Offline" and have that be a link [should be possible right?].

nah, keep messages and ratings. Trophy points and join date can go.
speaking of trophy points, the Club of Excellence one is still broken for me
Also the status thing isn't flush with the rest of the bar and takes up over half the space
(while bug reports are appreciated please voice these in a PM to relevant staff instead of posting them here, they are neither related to the topic at hand nor are they likely to be noticed in this thread)

this would be good. perhaps as a little green steam icon in the top right corner; not taking up space or making the member cards even more hideously huge.

Eesh, that's cluttered as fuck. I'm tempted to say remove trophy points and ratings, but I kind of like having ratings there. The steam card would be nice but I don't think it's worth the cost, I vote against it.
I'm in agreement, only, I would say go through with removing trophy points and ratings because they give the least interesting and important stats of a poster and with the overhaul Steam is more important

The steam card seems fine to me in the example. I'd like to see them tested before we make a definite decision, I don't think the cards look too clunky or out of place, however seeing a bunch of them on the forums might sway my opinion.
if the person has the same steam and forum avatars though it's like hearing 2 tvs on the same channel playing in different rooms at the same time

same for people who have their rank as their title and banner; is that just me?

Trophy Points are irrelevant, but I think that Join Date is still pretty handy, as it can show new players from a glance how long a person has been in the community (yes I know that people have been longer than the Join Date due to forum resets, but it still shows age relative to others that are newer and joined after the reset).
Messages also are an indicator of activity in a community.

Ratings I'm unsure of, though they don't really tell that much?

Honestly though the Steam Card itself is very redundant.
We don't really need their Steam Avatar, and a lot of the time not even their Steam Username?

(also I find online status of Steam to be irrelevant as well, considering the amount of people that always leave their Steam logged in anyways)
