Hello.

*THIS IS NOT A BEGGING THREAD, IT'S A MERE SUGGESTION!*

I am suggesting to bring back boxels, here's a few arguments as to why I want it.

  • Boxels were practical and easy to use.
Pro's
- Boxels were easy to clean up and to use. - Griefing was no longer a problem, as it wasn't possible.
- You had acces to WE without the needed trust!
- Be able to make maps, save buildings easily!
- Flatlands without borders, without anyone making borders!

Cons:
- Boxels tended to glitch.
- The water around a boxel glitched you out.
- You had limmited space.

  • As stated above, Boxels made griefing impossible to do!
In a boxel you had to invite a player or the player could ask to come in with the command /call. In-fact, You couldn't force a player in your boxels as they had to call you! You could let them in if they wanted to.

  • People are still making 'boxels'

I think we should keep it the way it currently is, but have the option to privately own your own boxel.

If it is, in fact, possible. Because I see people enjoying both sides of the argument, wanting boxels and flatland/terrain, so they may possibly be able to show it off, as well as allow more easier access to their creations.

Of course, I'm not on very often, but I thought I'd give my point out, as well.

Currently, It is staying the way it is but I have already suggested the posibility for users to apply for their own, personal Boxel/World but would only be given to users who earn it by creating amazing things, which they can then show off when they apply.

However, when it was just boxels it was extremely hard to staff the server, you might think 'This guy is stupid nobody ever griefed so it must've been easy'.. Wrong you are, because there was no grief we couldn't do our jobs, everyone behaved meaning nobody could progress on their current position, that way we would have most likely kept our positions until we resigned.. however, like this we can actually sort grief out while users don't have to deal with those pesky glitches! We do try our best to remove grief, if you happen to be on and someone does grief, please contact us via IRC.

I do however prefer boxels due to it being 100% Anti-grief but it became boring for us who'm come on to mainly staff the server, and the issues that users couldn't have shared worlds etc chucked a fair people out of their own; Though I believe there will be a map reset soon, If so then perhaps Yuck can put the world up for download!

AngelWV It being boring for staff isn't really a good reason. Staff really should just play as a player until needed, not staff constantly without need.

Basically, you're kinda saying we should remove security from buildings so cops have more to do. If there is no grief, that's a good thing.
I'm basically going along by what Yuck has said, Defiant, my map was supposed to be added to AoD which I'm not sure it ever was so I kept it on Buildbox until It was, however I couldn't build in any maps due to the restriction that only map creators could build inside it, therefor it got incredibly boring, nor were us staff able to actually do our jobs.

I'm pretty sure you need an Yuck to get his attention here.

I really liked the privacy of boxels as well, but I think the bugs with it out weigh that bonus. There were constant requests from people for help because they couldn't get to their boxel, and ops couldn't do anything about it. The world borders were unnecessarily annoying, especially if you used a world generator for your box. My box used a world gen, and it set my spawn to about 200 blocks outside of my box. How exactly do you get back to the area where you don't get reset to the same position every half second? I know I did it every time, and it was a huge pain in the ass. Aya set my spawn position to 0,0 to help me out, and that didn't last past 1 reset.

Also, the fact that people are sectioning off the map doesn't mean they're building boxels. They're making boundaries for their creations so they have the space to make them. Boxel somewhat supports this, yes, but it isn't necessary. Only one of those pics actually looks like a boxel attempt, one looks like the person wanted a deeper ground for their build and the rest are just borders.

Finally, I'm pretty sure we'll have less grief issues if we get rank based maps to build on. A builder+ only map should have very little grief (depending on how the rank is handed out). The main spawn map would still have issues, but that's the only place random idiots could do damage.

Go check on-line for borders like that; You'll see diffrent things in there. Redstone experiments; designs for towns ect. People are still using it as boxels, nearly noone builds togheter for as far as I can see.

One of the main reasons that we switched from the boxel format to the current one is because of how closed of it was. The boxels made it incredibly hard to interact with other users. In the freebuild format you can teleport freely and build and play with other users.

Let me put this in a metaphor, you go to school and it's recess time, everyone gets put in a pen where they can play freely by themselves, and if they want to play with someone in their pen they need to invite them and hope that they will come. Now imagine this, there are no pens and everyone can play freely, even if there are those who prefer to play alone, it is still a nicer environment. Then come the bullies, in the boxel situation, they're locked in their pen, or just don't come out to play, noone is having fun with each other freely. In the 2nd situation the bullies do come, but the yard duty teachers do their best to sort things out, and it is better than being in a pen.

For as far as I can see the people are constructing their own pens at the moment. Everyone is creating their own small area where they can build; a lot like boxels.

Im going to try to address some things in this thread and some things on server when next I have the time.

Boxels were borked half the time you tried to use them. This alone is unacceptable not to mention the fact that it completely isolated everybody from everybody else. If you want to be isolated in your own little world with nobody being able to see or bother your things.... play singleplayer. The world is bigger and worldedit works just as well if not better.
You can still make maps and save them as schematics and all that on server currently, and as of yet nobody has even put a limit on how much space it can use (though if people start being douches about it it would probably happen.)

The only REAL issue as I see it is grief. Now I dont share the strange view that grief is good so ops can progress in rank. Thats silly. Rank is not the game were playing. Minecraft is. That being said however, with this system of an open world grief is an issue. Whether it be fuckwits with 10 free minutes or somebody forgetting to set the other point and cuboiding through half of somebody elses whatever. Boxel build didnt need ops or a HC. This one does.

Things will be happening to limit the amount of grief that occurs. These things will be put together when I have time to do it. I will list some of what I hope will be coming for you now though.
First of all spawn will be its own tiny world, and a portal hub to all of the real worlds.
Guests will have their own smallish world to go to from said hub and will have no dangerous commands.
Operators will be tasked with occasionaly roaming it and promoting people that arent dummies so that they might go to the other maps. It will also be cleared regularly.
And of course builders will have their flat and terrain maps. The portals to which should be much more clearly defined this time.
I would also like to add a themed build map AND have either large or small competitions people can take part in if they want, with some kind of prize for winning it.

So basically more of the same but better executed and more gooderer.
I am a busy dood and I apologize for not being faster at getting things set up all nice and fancy.

Operator applications are open
Any questions or suggestions appreciated.
And Diago that map was supposed to have a protected area I forgot to make. Will be rectified soonish.

Also
For as far as I can see the people are constructing their own pens at the moment. Everyone is creating their own small area where they can build; a lot like boxels.
But you can see them cant you!

Yuck, may I suggest the ticket system plug-in? I'm sure it would help since there are not many OPs at the moment. It allows players to open a ticket for staff to review. This helps since if no staff are online, the player can log off and while they are off a staff player can assess the situation. While they may not be able to resolve it, it is faster than waiting for an OP to come online.

Most of the time, the grief is normally just lava grief we can worldedit it out. But say Yuck changed the perms to make Lava to builder, then it would make the server a lot hard to grief. If the boxels do get brought back then people won't be able to build with each other.
I believe this super flat world is a lot better for users and staff since the users can look at other creations with out having to type weird commands and they can build together. For staff, there is more to look after like grief and spam of ender portals etc etc. Like Shiny said, boxels have limited space so the builds have to be small but they can now be a lot lot bigger. I think the Ticket plugin would be a great plugin to have for BuildBox. :) SG.

I would rather not have permissions on stuff, including lava, unless it's given to AdvBuilder or Builder, as anyone who has gotten that far is mildly trustworthy, as they lasted long enough to make their own creations without effing everything up.

The main reason I want Boxels back, myself, is because of the fact it's your own little land, and you can ensure nothing will happen to it, grief wise.

Another reason would be the fact you won't have anyone building really close to it.

For example, my wizard tower at /warp DuffieTower. Now, there is a random diamond block railway going around my tower. I would get rid of it, as I dislike it being there, but I really don't want to grief, as I dislike griefing, myself. But it still gets in the way of the big picture.

There were also other problems with my tower, such as the water in my water tower being drained, both the running water and the pond inside it, and there were various holes around the tower itself. I don't think there were any logs saying who had griefed, leaving the person who had done his job successfully in the clear.

Point is, boxels are safe. If it is possible to bring them back, that would be most appreciated. If it is impossible, at least make the permissions low enough that it isn't annoying to wait to use them without help.

Point is, boxels were extremely glitchy, causing the server to be restarted 10 times a day and no HC wants to have to deal with that because of glitches that aren't necessary. As we've stated before you can build a box using wool or whatever you would like to ensure nobody builds close to it, /warp TheGorillaBuild for example.

Lava was suggested by Salient to be moved up to Builder so that griefers do not come on and spam lava everywhere which makes our job a nightmare, because it is very hard to remove especially if there is other resources of lava/water in the area that has been placed specifically for design!

If someone griefs your work, then you ping an Operator to ensure the grief is un-done and the user is BANNED; we cannot solve grief if you do not report it.. however we do go on grief runs where we search for it but we cannot be specific enough to notice grief inside every single building so we'd greatly appreciate it if you did that in future :)

I had a suggestion I had been simmering on for the last couple of days which is users can earn points by winning 'Creation of the week' - The winner gets 5 points; once a user gets 10 points they can buy a specific area that is assigned to them and cannot be edited by anyone other than them. You can also go into the terrained map which is hardly used and is something that needs to be brought up to users who are finding the flat map infuriating, this map has been hardly touched around the map other than the actual spawn area, so building underground or far from spawn on that map would do you a great chance of avoiding grief aswell.

However, thank-you for leaving your opinion ;)

I had called for someone, but I had been offline for a long period of time, between when I logged back on, and the last time I had logged on.
