Please don't post in this thread if you are not playing!
Welcome to the thread of the Empires of the Fading Sun campaign, a Play-By-Post Role-Playing game that we will play on the forums right in this very thread! EFS will be run as a Fantasy adventure, a realm filled with the traditional Elves and Orcs, but also a few unique playable races such as the nature-loving Wildr and the stone-hard Forged.
We will be using the GURPS system to operate this game, and for those familiar with Dungeons and Dragons, you will not find this system to be too different from what you are used to. As with other pen and paper RPGs, the rules and operations may seem challenging. Do not fear however, for the others and myself are also new to this system as well as pen and paper games in general. As a team we will try our best to assist one another when help is needed.
I am lucky to have Duffie , JKangaroo , and ReyvnNova to begin as our first three adventurers, but I would like to have some more players join us soon! To join us, first take a look at the GURPS Lite Rulebook, a free edition of the core rules, which is what we will be using for this game. Then, I will have you PM me an application stating on your intentions of playing this game, which will be found below. Keep in mind that I will run with 4-5 players usually, so it may take quite a long time for you to have a turn. Warning: If you do not frequent the forums often, I'd advise you to NOT play this game. We will do our best to move quickly, so if you are causing for our group to lag behind in pace, I will have to remove you from the game. If you are aware that you will be missing for an extended period of time, inform me before hand and we can work something out for you in your absence.
When the game has begun, we will not allow for non-players to talk. After the game begins however, PM me otherwise to avoid distractions!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This area will be used to provide information about the campaign, as well as provide helpful links that will assist you during the game.

PM me this information: The better the application, the higher up on the waiting list I will place you.
How often are you on the forums (estimate)?:
Have you had any experience with Pen and Paper RPGs before?:
What about this game appeals to you?:
Will you be willing to make the commitment that this game requires?:
Do you understand that if I feel your inactivity or poor behavior causes the game to run poorly, I may remove you?:

Provide me with an idea of a character you would like to play. This does not have to be a completely fleshed out character or necessitate that you fill out your character sheet, I am purely interested in what your imagination can create. Keep in mind that we have "Races" in this campaign, and your character may have to change!

Some DMs dislike when players speak out of character. Other ban the practice completely. This is not a practice that I will adopt, and infact will encourage you to speak out of character when the need arises. The only thing that is necessary is to distinguish when you are doing this. Your options are to:[/LEFT]
Use brackets: [ ] ----> [Like this]
Use double parenthesis: (( )) ----> ((Like this))
When you are doing something such as a monologue, but your character is not actually speaking, these markings aren't required.

Ellie Shizuka (Duffie):
A 20 year old Half-Elf of 4'7", Ellie had always received ridicule from her Elven brethren about her height, and rumors spread that she was part dwarf. But despite this, Ellie maintained an upbeat personality, but her childish manner made her grow bored of the dull Elven lifestyle that she led in Aerenor, so she sailed West to the continent of Aelor to discover the ways of the adventurer.
Brand (JKangaroo)
The massive stone automaton Brand had lived its entire immortal life under the servitude of the Illothorian Empire, the greatest empire that had ever graced the lands of Aelor. But time caught up to them, and the Illothorian Empire eventually fell, swallowed by the sands. Brand had an immortal life ahead of it now with the Empire gone, and he began to wander alone for the next several thousand years.
Faust (ReyvnNova)
The orphaned elf found few friends in life. An outsider from his genesis, the young Faust left the elves who had alienated him and seeked out a new life that could bring him good fortune. He began his new life in the streets of Neverfell, eventually becoming a Shadowstrider, a rogue who operates in the darkest places of the world. He acquired visible scars from these days, permanently marking his face. He left the world of the Shadowstriders to seek a world outside of crime, one where he could seek a higher cause.
Bryant Abruzzese
Swig after swig goes his drink. Puff after puff goes his pipe. This 4'4" Dwarf embraces his vices as much as he embraces battle. He has a long fiery red mane of a beard, which is startlingly offset by his crystal blue eyes. Bryant tends to spend his time traveling, mostly from bar to bar it seems, but he always finds a way to earn money, be it from little bar tricks, to winning brawls, to the occasional adventure
Jacob Dale
If you're looking for the leading role of a play, you want the handsome, charismatic gentleman that will charm up the crowd, no sooner would you look to than Jacob Dale. He's had a taste of adventure with his dwarven buddy Bryant, and he's eager for more.
I am still editing this page, and will throughout the campaign. Refer to this to check for new information! I hope you are excited for the game and am eager for applications!
I'll be adding new things to the "New Additions" section, so that it is easier for you to find what I am adding daily.

Neverfell
It was to be the jewel of the New World - the crowning achievement for the human colonizers that first set foot on this land and founded this city 500 years ago. It is true, Neverfell did prosper in its early years, thriving from its abundant trade and became the largest and wealthiest city of the Adolphi Coast. But tides change and progress slowed, and the weight of wealth piled up high collapsed as the economy crumbled from years of civil strife from the lower classes and centuries of war from the nearby city of Duskan. Neverfell is a cracked shell of what it was from it's golden years 200 years ago.
Now war has again reached the walls of Neverfell. Seeing its vulnerability, the Duskan army march near, and Neverfell will not have the forces to suppress it. Duskan means to crush it to the ground, once and for all.
Neverfell calls for aid....
-----------
Faust awoke to something pecking on his cheek. He thought he imagined it at first, until he felt something pull at his long elven ears. He quickly turned from his side and rose his back from his bedding, which consisted of a tossed bale of dried hay. He had been sleeping in a farmhouse for the past couple days, unbeknownst to the owner of the place. It was hard to see, as he was staring into a window, which the morning light streamed in from. He saw a dark figure perched on the window, and with a closer look as he squinted his eyes noticed it to be a kestrel, the messenger bird of choice in Aelor. A small paper was tied to its one leg.

Faust thought back to his old life, when he commonly saw these birds of the sky. He had not seen this creature in many months, and had assumed one would never deliver to him again. Perhaps it was not meant for him - just another soul lost in the confusion of the Neverfell streets.
Apprehension in his hands, Faust reached for the paper attached to the bird's leg.

Faust tentatively unbinds the paper from the birds foot. The bird pauses, as it has done hundreds of times, standing still as the swift wind ruffles the back of it's feathers. Faust opens the paper, and finds that it is in fact written by a familiar hand:

I know that it has been a year since we last spoke, but it is with great earnest that I hope to rekindle our partnership once again. Since you left our order, Hamill, that stupid bastard, has led a mass defection movement within our ranks and allied those silly enough to listen to his proclamations to the join Duskan cause. Unfortunately, Hamill was a popular man, resulting in the vast majority of the Shadowstriders leaving us. Recently, I have received an urgent request from a lifelong friend of mine that will determine the outcome of this upcoming war. I would have someone else do this, but my best men and women have left my side. I cannot do this myself, and so I hope that you will be the one to come to my aid.

I need you to return to the city of Neverfell. Remember the Dyer's Pub? There was that underground fighting ring there, and I'd always place the bet on the one-armed cripple. The poor fella never stood a chance. Anyways, they have acquired a new fighter that is of noticeably higher tier than usual: A Forged. It goes by the name of Brand, and it has wrecked havoc so far on the competition. This Forged, as my friend says, holds the key to finding a "weapon" of some sort that will turn the tide. Acquire him by some means, but hopefully not physically; he's a Forged for Tyr's sake. After you acquire him, look for the sign of the wolf. That is there will help you two escape to our meeting place.

I know that you departed us, with good reasons. But this is not some trick to get you back into service. This is not some petty job, and it is for the good of my city.

To accept this job, mark this letter with your intent and reattach it to the bird. It will find it's way back.

((Faust, you know this to be a man named Marin. He was leader of the Shadowstriders, the criminal/ assasin organization, for the majority of your time when you were with them. You trusted him well, and for a man in charge of a criminal organization, he was a good man. You do not know of this friend that he speaks of.

EDIT: Also, Rey can you do a quick run-through on what your character looks like?))

(Certainly!)
//Faust had never much cared for his appearance. Growing up, he had kept a plain face - nothing that would turn a head in any direction. But since his darker dealings in Neverfell, his face had acquired the results of his profession. His face was now littered with scars, to the point of dis-figuration. It not only repulsed those around him, but Faust himself. He hid his shame beneath a simple hood, which not only covered his face but the pointy ears and long elvish hair that had an earthly hue.//

Faust stares at the parchment for some time. Only the sudden cark from the Kestrel brings him back to the present. The urge to simply rip the paper and be rid of his past burns at his core, but his hands can't follow through. Marin had always been a good friend; just and loyal. He had always been there, and now, it is Faust's turn.
Not giving a second thought, he marks the paper and strings it back onto the bird's leg.

(I can safety assume that Hamill was some high-ranking person in the Shadowstriker? Also, does this farm contain horses by chance?)

The bird flies back into the sky, returning the message to it's owner.

(( You've dealt with him before. Hamill was always one of those guys who liked to talk big, but the problem is people would believe them. The fact that he would actually "do" something and organize something like this surprises you a bit, as he's usually just a talker.))

Also, you do not notice stray horses on the farm, but you do hear a squeaking sound coming from the road. It turns out to be a wagon, pulled by a mule. An elderly man sits upon the wagon.

"What kind of work is this? I have places to be! Get out of the way!"

The man reaches for his sickle. He doesn't seem to want to attack you with it, it is more for self-defense.

((I rolled a pretty poor reaction roll towards you. I wont tell you everytime I roll one, but just letting know these are the situations which I'll be using them!))

(( Typically for these situations I will have you roll for Diplomacy. Since you are not trained in this, it will be at a default of IQ-6, which is 3. That's pretty impossible, so since you're acting like a poor beggar, we'll see how good you pull that off. Roll 3d6 against your Acting Skill, so with IQ+1, your target score is ten or less. If you succeed, roll again against your IQ, so nine or less, and we'll use that as your Diplomacy roll.

If you don't succeed, you will most likely have to consider other things besides talking in order to get your way. ))

You are let on the wagon. After a long silence between the two of you, the man apologizes for his rude behavior earlier. The lands are dangerous, and the sight of a well-armed youth put him on the defensive. He introduces himself as Derek. He proceeds to talk about his life on his farm, and how the red sun has harmed his crops. It has been six months since the sun began darkening, turning almost to a blood red at times.

"I had about half of my fields burnt this season. All dried, and shriveled. The soil cracks look like bug-canyons. Well, hopefully the sun returns to its normal self soon enough."

The man looks up into the sky, storm clouds twirl overhead.

"Looks like we'll be getting some rain today. We definitely need it."

Soon enough his prediction comes true. You become damp quickly, but it does ease your mind knowing that you could be walking in this weather. It approaches evening, and you finally pull up to the gates of Neverfell. You leave the wagon, and the man says his goodbyes and makes his way up towards his home in the north.

The city of Neverfell greets you with the usual crowds of noisy people and dirty, smelly streets. The rain at least begins to chip away at the caked on filth on the pathways, but the smell of rot still makes its way to creep into you. You march your way towards the Lower City, the unwealthiest part of town where it seems all the filth washes down and collects. The beer-mug shaped sign of the Dyer's Pub creaks at you. Even on this rainy night, the crowd has collected at the pub. While you have the urge to enjoy some comforts, you remember that you need to find a way to enter into the Fight Club below.

The fight club is not strictly "legal", so the entrance to it is not so obvious. The entrance that you and Marin would go through is behind in a storage room behind the bar. With Marin you could usually walk in unbothered, but without him, you might need to request access.

While the general crowd is partaking in random drunken banter and flirting with the barmaids, you do notice the whispers of a pair in the far left corner. You stand a bit closer so you can overhear them. One is of young boy, with neck long ratty looking blonde hair. The other a man in his thirties, with a scraggly black beard and short black hair. He stands leaning against the wall, with his arms crossed, looking disgruntled at the other. The blonde speaks in a quick and excited voice:

"....this is going to be the greatest fight in this places history! Why are you acting like this is the worst thing ever?"
"It's not, it's just, the circumstances don't seem right. The whole setup seems rather suspicious."
"Wha-? What are you on about? This fight was already good enough when we had the Forged, but now he's facing a Goliath as well? Not even one of those slaved Goliaths either, it's a free Goliath of the West."
"Yes, and it was supposed to be a the dwarf Guilder tonight. The dwarf vanishes overnight, and then this Goliath named Sulayman shows up out of the blue and volunteers himself. I have known none so eagerly foolish to fight such a being as a Forged."
"Well, just imagined Guilder got scared that's all-"
"HE, is not the kind of dwarf to run away from a fight! I swear to you that something is not right!"
"Please hush down! Besides, it's about time for the fight to start, let's make our way down."

As you are resting on the left side of the bar, the two pass behind you and off to the right where the storage entrance is.

The barman finally notices you and makes his way to you, placing down a stone coaster.

"Hullo, what can I get ya tonight?"

He quickly raises his hand to his mouth, attempting to quiet you. He inconspicuously pulls out from under the counter a token roughly the same shape and color as a silver coin, only it has the insignia of two dogs reared up fighting one another. The names of previous champions are marked on the coin. He leans over and whispers to you.

"Take this to the guard in the storage room behind me. You'll pay for entry there."

You do so, but as you pull around the corner you find that the entrance door is ajar, and the man guarding it is slumped over in his chair. He's leaning over, his arm draped towards the floor, and his hand is hovering over an unmarked bottle.

(( Jivvi , Please don't post in this thread if you're not playing! I'm sorry that you're having problems though D: ))
