Thaumological workings: Guardians and their theorized relation to thaumatology.
Apart from type greens and type black's there is a third thaumological anomaly that partially defies the normal laws of thaumatology. In this post I'll explain two things. What is thaumatology, and why is it that it's most likely that guardians use it.
This is a theory as to how Guardians summon and use their magic specified to their aspect.
First off. Let's give you an example how thaumatology works.
Thaumatology is the science of magic. It revolves around Elan-Vital-Energy, or EVE for short. EVE could be described as "Magic Particles" but that's oversimplifying it. If you want to know more about EVE specificially etc. Visit the GOC hub because that'd take up a lot of useless space.
EVE is transmitted by living beings. The amount of EVE is decided by the amount of sapience a living being has. Humans over Animals, Animals over Plants.
That's the simple part. Now for the thing that actually explains how guardians might summon their powers: Aspect Radiation. Or ARad for short. ARad is simply EVE concentrations high enough to cause reality itself to bend.
ARad is defined by 4 different aspects.
Strength, Pitch, Hue and Weave.
Strength is defined by 'Caspers'. It defines how strong the bend in reality is. 100 Caspers is normal, It'd take around 1200 caspers for Light to emit a light orb, 4.000 caspers for causing lava to flow up. around 13.500 caspers to open a portal to the nether/aether.
Hue is to define how blatant the change is. Hue is labeled by these terms: Ruby, Topaz, Lemon, Malachite, Sapphire, Ebony, and Over-Ebony.
Ruby would be like, creating a small object, or flying. Lemon would be around changing someone's anatomy like giving it extra limbs (Or wings for flight). Ebony would be around terms of creating, destroying or moving entire skyscrapers.
Pitch is the 'White line VS Black line' concept. It defines wether the bend in reality is creative, destructive, or changing reality with the resources you currently posess.
Pitch is defined by the following:
Double-sharp, Sharp, Natural, Flat and Double-Flat
The sharp end would be creating objects. Like light orbs, etcetera. The flat side would be destruction, like causing a rock to shatter or something. Natural is more of both. It's generally used to move objects or something.
Yes I see you mr. interested-in-everything. How about changing properties of objects like Cyra did with her handcuffs? Well that depends on what properties of the object she changed. She changed the texture and made it sticky, Making it sticky would be adding a property to the handcuffs, thus a sharp pitch is needed. And changing it's texture is changing an existing property, thus using a Natural pitch. If she were to remove a property (For example making it de-stickified) she would've needed a flat pitch.
Lastly is weave. Personally I don't really know what it is or how to explain it. So I'll ruthlessly steal this from the GOC database...
[article=Transcript of a lecture given by Professor ████████████ on Aetheric Energy and Aspect Radiation from the Global Occult Coalition Database]Finally, Weave. Comes in four varieties: Sparse, Loose, Tight, and Locked. Explaining it is… difficult… mostly because it's the only characteristic of Aspect Radiation that we don't have a way to detect. The only way to assess Weave is by direct observation by a Type Blue like myself. But what you need to know is: Sparse is vague and strange. Loose is a little more understandable. Tight is usually about where we get to what most people think of as "magic" or "reality warping" - the purview of Type Blues and Greens. And if you ever hear "Locked," turn and run like hell, because there's a Type Black in the area.[/article]
Probably guardians like Light, Corruption, Ground etc use Tight weaves while guardians with more passive powers (Like Flight) have a sparse or loose weave. I can't say much about it.
Now to the summoning of thaumic actions.
A thaumic spell consists out of four parts: Source, the Shaper, the Target, and the Sink.
The Source is where guardians get their magic energy from. Now this is where things get slightly interesting. The guardians' source of energy also defines the pitch. For example, getting EVE particles towards a Double-flat pitch would need a number of human sacrifices, as to where a Double-sharp pitch would need... Making Babies. Yeah...
As we see currently Guardians do neither of the two to get their powers. This implies, just like type greens that they do not need a source for their actions. Except for Light, considering when he creates light orbs he embeds his blood in it. Now that's just a small touch I used for my OC myself that I won't dare enforce on you (I'm not setting RPing rules), but blood is a pretty neutral pitch.
The Shaper is the person who creates the thaumic action and bends it. Thus the guardian themselves. Not much to say about that.
The Target is what you are trying to accomplish or change.
The Sink is where backlash goes. Backlash is what happens when excess energy bounces off the fabric of reality thus creating unwanted side-effects. Like, I use thaumatology to create a huge light orb, and somewhere a third crater appears. However, This is not the case, as no backlash seems to occur when a thaumic action is performed by the guardians. Thus here goes my theory: Backlash is actually drained into the shaper's mind and stays there for a while untill the energy slowly bounces off and ceases. If too much backlash energy stays in the shaper's mind it creates the magic taint wich taints the guardian's magic and personality. How excess energy get stored into the guardian's mind? Food for tought.
So you can see how this fits into Guardians' magic.
I've pretty much explained a big part of it. But of course the biggest question arises: How come guardians can only use their own aspect? That's honestly going to be a step in the deep for me to theorize without affecting the plot. But let's just say guardians have special EVE patterns that define what kind of thaumalogical actions are performed... To be honest I can't really think that up myself. If you come up with an idea. Just tell me.
You are free to ask questions or point out anything that conflicts or influence the plot.
