How not to install viruses?

Are there people here who know if it is possible to check the file before downloading it? On some site or some program? I just want to install a minecraft mod from this site Primal Tech Mod 1.12.2 – Bashing Stuff with Rocks and Stone Age Tech, but I'm afraid to download a virus or miner along with the mod, I don't want to reinstall Windows and lose the files I need, who has any thoughts about this?

Everything seems to be legitimate from that mod. I'm not familiar with 99Minecraft but the same mod is listed on CurseForge with over 5m downloads https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/primal-tech

Avoid using 99Minecraft, only download from CurseForge like Mmarz11 mentioned - you will be fine.
