Put it in your sig?I think that everyone should get a title or ex staff
Some people get dishonorably demoted, while some just resign. Either way, I don't think they would want a title for that.I think that everyone should get a title or ex staff
I need a sad rating ):It will at some point, be it in the near or far future. There will, however, come a day when it closes.
This has been discussed in the past, but it's been turned down for a number of reasons:I think that everyone should get a title or ex staff
What I'm saying is everyone can have a title under there name not like a zombie operator titleThis has been discussed in the past, but it's been turned down for a number of reasons:
- More people to keep track of. We have a lot of staff, and when you factor in the ex-staff that list close to triples (quadruples? quintuples? I'm actually not sure how many we have). Maintaining a much larger list means that much work for the higher-ups, which means that much less time to work on the servers (or live their own lives).
- We don't know who all the ex-staff are. We've demoted (or seen resign) a LOT of people. Blocktopia has been around for a relatively long time, and the list of ex-staff is much, much larger than the list of current staff. This means that, naturally, we don't know who all past staff are - particularly ones from before we started keeping regular meeting recaps. We'd constantly have people popping up insisting they should be ex-staff with no way of proving it, or simply complaining that they aren't on the list.
- It's kind of pointless. An ex-staff title only makes sense for posterity and bragging rights; they could not be assumed to be an "official" because they're ex-staff, meaning it would be a judgement made based on who they were, not who they are. Furthermore, there's not telling how long they were ex-staff for, or what position they held; an ex-staff badge would mean that I (a former Administrator and somewhere between the third and fourth longest-running member of Blocktopia who's still active in the community) would get the same badge as someone who'd spent two weeks as an Operator and then was demoted due to inactivity. Even if we thought of a good method of communicating how long someone had been staff, it'd still be a huge workload on the higher-ups, who already have plenty on their plate.
If implemented, I would expect a huge wave of random members changing their title to 'Administrator' or similar. What I'm saying is everyone can have a title under there name not like a zombie operator title
Would you like to sort through every active member of the forum on a near constant basis to make sure nobody misused the ability to set their own titles? Note that this includes people who say they're ex-staff when they aren't, or aren't actually staff on a server they say they are. Which means cross-referencing every user with the current staff lists. If we do we ban them, it's obvious

I didn't think so.
(And that's putting aside the idea of banning people for what would be a minor offense)
GmK is there a specific reason as to why we can't have this, just so this is finally settled? :)
I also recall a conversation I had with GmK about implementing the current "Premium Op" badge, and he stated that there is only one permissions group for Premium.I think the reason why there wont be any separate ranks for the staff members is due to the fact that GmK would have to setup permissions, etc for every server, thus being too much hassle. Like KingSam mentioned, It'd probably be easier to just wait for the Classic servers to close.
It was, but people keep debating about it, so I wanted it to be settled again ;DWasn't it fully settled after the second post in the thread? ; P
I admire your optimism, but we're going to shut our doors at some point, and I doubt it'll take that long to do us in.That will not happen until a million years pass...

Im guessing blocktopia will shut down around the time minecraft loose most of its popularity.I admire your optimism, but we're going to shut our doors at some point, and I doubt it'll take that long to do us in.
That's not to say we're planning on closing down anytime soon. Just that it will happen eventually.![]()
