I have been a trusted since April 6, 2012. This makes me the oldest current trusted on the server. In the meantime, I have watched many of my peers, such as Soapless, Emues, MBH, and Forseti be chosen for op before me. I don't think I am doing anything wrong, but I am now asking for opinions on how I can improve my work as a trusted. Thank you in advance for staffing suggestions. -crashb23

Well, for some people, it just takes a while to get promoted to operator. Just ask Alpha about that; he knows how you feel. I don't remember specifically how you act, so I might include something you already do.

First of all, become a known person. Say hey to everybody, and if you really want to, ask how everyone's feeling. Show some emotion, too; nobody can hate on the lively, caring player. Not only that, but (usually) someone gets promoted to operator through voting. A majority of the server's visitors are either players, or operators, so it's great for them to know you and have faith in you.

Next, of course, is helping people. Personally, I say you should give some thorough descriptions.. although, don't be too descriptive, or else the player asking will get even more confused. Here's something really great I thought of: pay attention when a player asks an easy question (e.g. how do I infect humans). If someone asks that, they're more than likely a beginner, so you should use /whois on them just to make sure. With that said, they probably haven't seen the rules if they are new, so you should ask them to check the rules and say that you're willing to help if they have any questions/concerns.

Speaking of helping out people, don't overdo it in general. Sometimes, operators like handling things themselves, so you don't really want to interfere when they're taking care of business.

Oh, and one other thing that applies to EVERYONE: take some time off of trying to hit x amount of rounds survived/brains eaten in order to check for unreachables/pillars/etc. You'll come off as a very diligent person, at least in my opinion. I've seen some of you trustees blatantly ignoring obvious things just to laugh at someone's joke or try and be a runner.

That's all I can think of, really. My apologies if I wasn't of much help, but this is all I can give at the moment. Best of luck!

Even though I am not part of Zombie I still believe I have somethings to say on this. Well crash jsut like you I felt the same way a litttle as a trusted maybe not as sever but still in the same way. The thing is people usually think of it but no matter what rank you are you matter and can make a huge impact to the server (in a good way). I have seen many staff members from Trusted to Head Controller who have had a long time of waiting and then suddely shoot up ranks. Eventually people will get up in the ranks some maybe longer for others so just brush it off and keep doing what you do you will get your chance :D.

Also if you dont get promoted it doesnt mean you did something wrong so never feel that way. I know its hard to feel like all of your friends are getting either trusted or Op while your still a player and I felt that too. Eventually you will get turn but for now be happy for them since in this community i learned other's struggles for accomplishments should make you happy too.

Nillbugwtw was a trusted for a long time, about 5 months I believe, and look where he is now. It's best to be patient, do what trusteds are suppose to do. You have to show that you really want the position of Op.
Try to help out, as much as you possibly can. TRY TO STAND OUT (seewhatididthere?) from others! And what Forseti said there, is right.

Look, I was a trusted myself for a long time too. 2 months, then I got demoted! Once I re-applied I had to spend another 2 months trying to show that I care for the server, and that one Friday night, I got op.

I just wanted to input that [Trusted] is a sort of training rank to [Op]. It's meant to prepare you for being an opref on the server. If you don't get promoted immediately, it doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong like balloon said. Think of it as more training before you're really ready and finally hit being an operator. Don't be discouraged and keep doing what you're doing (from what I've seen, you're doing fine), because in the end, it's just a taste of what being an operator is like, handling more responsibility and such. When you finally become one, you'll feel more ready and prepared from the time it took and your own experience as a trusted.

I know I am only a trusted myself, but I have been an op before so I just wanted to say some things here as well.
First of all, it's great that you have te dedication to keep trying, I am sure some people would just give up, but it's people who continue to work for it like you who deserve it.
Second, when I was an op, I remember there were times when someone asked a question and everyone replied with the same message. Instead, if someone has already replied, then don't say the same thing, give them other information that may be helpful.

Example
New player: am I a zombie?
Player 1: yes type /me
Player 2: or you can look at your name, red means your a zombie, white means your a human.

Third, just be patient. Like others have said here, some of the best players on the server were a trusted for a long time (eg. Nill) and look where they are now!

Also, I have heard ops+ say that they look for trusteds who continue to improve to become ops and while I already feel that you are an excellent trusted, everyone has room for improvement.

So really, just try your best to be calm and helpful, and you will get op one day I'm sure!

I experienced exactly the same thing as you did when I was a Trusted (my first time round). Just keep on doing what you're meant to do, and hopefully it wont end in a demotion, like what happened to me.

Also, if I may ask in this thread, I was demoted for being stagnant, yet most, if not all of you are saying "just give it time". I gave it time, and I was demoted.
