So it seems pokemon is taking a lesson from digimon.

With the recent update from coro-coro (and updating still at this second)
"Megapokemons" have been revealed. Not much is known so far, but the new mewtwo form is one of these megapokemon, other pokemon which have a mega form include, but may not be limited to; blaziken, mawhile, lucario, absol, ampharos, etc.

New gym leader revealed,
New pokemon revealed..... one looks like a baby raichu... haha.

What do you guys think about these new "megapokemon"

I think this would be best as an end game mechanic (Like around lvl 60+).
I don't have much else to say but if it wasn't they would need to put some sort of restrictions on it so people cant just power through the game with one megapokemon

Well, going by a couple new updates. "Megapokemon" are only temporary.

By that they mean, they can only "evolve" DURING a battle, and it only lasts for a couple turns. During this mega form, their stats (presumably all of them) will increase. They evolve during battle by holding an item called megastone. And yes, Fjm12 ampharos being elec/dragon is awesome!

They look like the old ones but with long, flowing hair
Is it a hair saloon feature or

Good question, but no clue! They have the same types as their original (mawhile is also now steel/fairy) but they have brand new abilities in their "mega" form.
Some of them also have stat changes; I believe Mega Blaziken has either increased speed or attack and I think Mega Lucario may have both of those boosted? Not 100% sure but some do get stat additions as well as type changes.

I believe each Pokemon (or at least some of them) has it's own mega stone; I've seen a few images with a "Lucarionite" and the item for Blaziken is a "Blazikenite", which will only be available through a downloadable event. The Blazikenite will not be available through normal gameplay, and in the event will be held by a male, Level 10 Torchic with Speed Boost.
Also, you can't have more than 1 Mega Pokemon in the party at a time (I don't know if that means only one can hold the item to make it mega or what), so a full team of megas won't be a thing, thankfully for the meta-game.
And I don't recall hearing anything about the megalution (that's what I'm calling it) lasting for only a few turns, where'd you read that? o:

The posts were made before i had obtained more information. All the information i listed was provided by serebii but has been recently updated, to which i have not edited my posts cause lazy.

Yes, i believe each pokemon will have their own mega stone upon hearing both the "lucarionite" and "blazikenite" i do hope the others have better names and we're not stuck with "ampharosnite, mawhilenite, kagskhanite" etc.....

As for the turns, it has been updated that the megavolution will last for the entire battle, but will revert to normal once the battle is over.

yeah it's an event where you get the Torchic.

I want.... Mega Gyarados!!! Just Kidding!

Mega Meganium would be good because Meganium is pretty bad compared to Feraligatr and Typhlosion

Not really, Alot of pokemon who seem weak actually have some powerful tricks and tips to make them work. For example; meganium is good as a wall with its balance of high def/sp def. Also some nice sp atk and support techniques, put it in a good trick room team and it will mow down alot of opponents, including gator and typhlo.
