[Brainstorm] New ideas for the next SMP server

Wont happen.

We are not giving ordinary players the ability to jail up other players, just because they are a mayor.
But what if the Mayor caught a raider red-handed, and because they are in their land they can send them to their jail for a maximum of 5 minutes? Or something a long the lines.

But here are some of my ideas:

I've played a server before, I can't remember the name but a tweak I thought of to their smp was that Blocktopia could create an smp that uses level up abilities to access new areas of the maps. For example let's say you're a 'Wonderer', you can only access certain areas of the map in the nether and overworld until you level up to the next rank, which could cost money from trading with players and selling to shops.

Each new area accessed would grant the availability of those advanced players to make a profit while other players cannot access the resource, for example, a blaze rod could be only accessed by a rank three player and could be sold at the shops for $450 per 16, and the next rankup could cost $1,000,000, so players that can access it can grind them and sell them to players who don't want to make the extra effort for $1,000 per 16 instead. I've noticed a lot of servers with economy, that use a roleplay and pvp as an essence to advance in the server last for a very long time.

I know players love to pve too, but that could be the main aspect of the level 1 areas.. level 2 - level ? could be pvp areas as they are the areas that may require risk to gain the items that make you money so you can advance, dungeons could be more of a risk to enter rather than a challenge, because I've noticed players enter dungeons and bish bash bosh the boss is done and that's it, while these could be solo dungeons that require you to attack it for a greater reward whereas attacking it in groups could split the total wealth of the reward between the group because it required more players to kill, an example would be loot-share worlds on runescape when you go to godwars, if let's say an AGS hilt was dropped with a value of 40M, split between 10 people would be 4M..

What I'm trying to say it I am yet to see an old SMP combined with another old SMP, because I'm sure there is a combination out there that could potentially arise to be named as "one of the best" rather than "yet another".

Just report it to a staffmember if they are doing something illegal, as usual.

Well I'd like to think that raiding would be legal, yes pvp is fun but I preferred it when you had to have a legal way into your vaults like we did on Primordia.

What I meant was if you caught them legally raiding, but oh well.

Ugh, too many people want different things.

Honestly, I'd be just as happy to have a server similar to DoD, but for 1.8. I just want to build, and I'd love to have all of the 1.8 features involved.

If we have another server with all that stuff, I'd play both. Just don't get rid of the other, please.
indeed. this community is too big to NOT have an relatively vanilla SMP server.

The command would lead to drama and abuse what is the point when staff can take care of it themselves? It won't be added.
I was only suggesting it, it doesn't mean the actual idea has to be implemented but something that revolves around that idea, I think all things need to be discussed before shutting it out straight away considering we'll just end up running out of ideas if we constantly keep going for something "huge" to make it "unique", it doesn't have to be huge, just unique.

I quite like AngelWV 's idea of mayors being able to jail raiders for a short period of time, but I think it would need some kind of system to stop abuse if it were to be implemented... but I have no idea what that system could be because I'm a noob at Minecraft. xD

Also maybe not just mayors - possibly 'guards' (new role) could do it too maybe? XD

A guard could be a rank that a member per faction or whatever could apply for which could be a similar rank to a Trusted but with far less power, but would need to be treated the same when applying for as the jail could be abused. A guideline could be used too, and the ability to view their inventories for evidence if they have raided or are attempting to raid? I don't know if that'd work but it's just an idea.

Yeah I really like the idea of having to apply to be able to jail people! :bounce: Not sure about the inventory thing though, as surely just by checking their inventory they won't be able to tell if they raided or not because they could have had those items when they came in? Or am I confused XD Also not sure if people would like being searched like that - they could have precious items that they don't want anyone to know they have and kill them for it :p but then again, if these guards have to apply for the rank I suppose they wouldn't abuse it like that and share their inventory with the world XD

EDIT: or do you mean guards can check inventories to see if they have items that they KNOW belonged to the town e.g. a book called 'Swag' or something? It might be cool to have guards walking the town checking the new people and confiscating contraband etc XD But that's just my opinion and I love to roleplay so for those who don't that might not be as fun :p

I liked the fact that ops could jail people on primordia for minor infractions (makes warnings more meaningful), and I still like the way I twisted the idea above (players can jail their mayors), but I don't see mayors being able to jail people unless it's an op equivalent rank, which kinda ruins the the family hierarchy if only ops can get to the top. Also, I'd rather 3 person councils than just a mayor at the top of a family, makes it easier to get inactive people out and adds politics to everything, which always makes good drama :)

Agree 100%, a monthly re-vote for a new mayor like primordia, players would vote in their factions for the next council member to become the mayor :p

Just my two cents. I think a post-apocalyptic map for a SMP server would be fun. We'd have like torn up bases, etc. I'm kinda tired of the medieval tone of our SMP servers. Maybe trying something new? I think the apocalyptic map would be fun. Because you'd get some resources from decaying buildings and mining/exploring. And having like a giant squid in an ocean that people could use as a base would be amazing. I'd love to elaborate more but that'd take up a page or two.

I once started building a giant squid in a single player world as a guideline to build one on primordia. Then i found out the server was closing in a few days.

Problem with the modern themes tends to be resource availability. You need a lot of stuff that isn't stone to build things that look reasonably current/near futuristic. Like iron, which people tend to use for equipment.

If there were official factions, I think it'd be really cool, though probably impossible, to implement a more realistic/violent system of government where leaders could be overthrown, instead of a purely democratic process.

If a leader of a faction made it's citizens unhappy, the people could stage an uprising, electing a new king or queen.

Or a freelancer could potentially take over a faction, though I'd imagine the people would be more likely to stage a coup.

Problem is, this is minecraft, not a history reenactment, and while it sounds cool in my head, I doubt it would work as intended.

I would have said the opposite, more expensive towns to slow the plague of hamlets over the lands.

A 1.8 SMP? Lol.
