My concern is how much damage could the mafia auctioneers item do if we let mafia get it/if town buys it

As far as we know there is no real harm in lynching notty tomorrow. It might still be advantageous to weed out the scum out of you 3.

Not really, I'm simply being given one coin, at least as the description says, because I don't see "steal" in the part when the target doesn't die.
