Razinao's post answers this question quite well. And I would hate to see the current servers change so drastically.Instead of a whole new server, Why not make this an addition to the Lava server or the Zombie server?
I never said they wouldn't, Also; Look at how much Zombie staff there is, 50+ Including Trusted.First part is false, second part is true. The reason being that "mature and respectable users that can handle such a position" are what we require our staff to be. I'm really not sure why you'd think those things wouldn't be requirements for a staff position.
I agree.Razinao's post answers this question quite well. And I would hate to see the current servers change so drastically.
If I have to explain why your original choice of phrasing implies you do not think being a "mature and respectable [user who] can handle such a position" is not a requirement for staff, then I am not even going to bother arguing this point, because there is no possible way I will be able to explain to you why I am right.I never said they wouldn't, Also; Look at how much Zombie staff there is, 50+ Including Trusted.
I don't even know what you're talking about, All I said was Blocktopia Itself is not lacking staff (Other than TNT/Lava lacking a bit), I was simply stating that the servers need more mature and respectable staff and not ones that like to argue with users - Not stating who does so, And not everyone is like that.If I have to explain why your original choice of phrasing implies you do not think being a "mature and respectable [user who] can handle such a position" is not a requirement for staff, then I am not even going to bother arguing this point, because there is no possible way I will be able to explain to you why I am right.
And if you are going with the "well, I didn't say exactly that" excuse, then you have already lost the argument. Implications are generally more important than what is directly stated, because they are harder to keep a lid on.
I was told differently by a TNT Vet.We have plenty of staff!
Though, as mentioned before, it wouldn't work on Lava, since some people just wanna build. I was thinking that if it wasn't too much trouble, some of the current staff could voluntarily staff that server (if created) until enough new staff are chosen for the server. Though, the maps need to be more than just jumpcourses of adminium. For example, maybe some op_blocks? This has to be the best server suggestion I have ever seen.Like many others, I really like this idea. A big factor about this however is time. Lots of work is going to have to be put into this. I would really like this to be an add-on on Lava, even though it won't reach it's full potential if it were its own server. If it was put on Lava, specific maps can be built so that people can't build a shelter or stuff and would have to push on. Once again, great idea, I would like to get good ideas like this more often :D!
The jump courses could be op_blocks, adminium, or even have the perbuild op-ref, to prevent building or breaking of blocks. (If they try to break/glitch through the blocks, we can warn/kick/ect... for abusing a flaw or glitch. Just like in zombie)Though, the maps need to be more than just jumpcourses of adminium. This is what I was trying to say. Thank you!The jump courses could be op_blocks, adminium, or even have the perbuild op-ref, to prevent building or breaking of blocks. (If they try to break/glitch through the blocks, we can warn/kick/ect... for abusing a flaw or glitch. Just like in zombie)
Of course there will be just plain adminium jumpcourses. But why not invest in some great back ground scenery or landscapes, and themes. After all this is Blocktopia, which in my opinion equals quality. Not to mention Maps would be easier and faster to make since we would mainly have to make jumpcourses instead of worrying too much of the scenery since people are timing their jumps not worrying about if the area around them is cool, right?
That is kinda what I meant since we CAN have background scenery but it doesn't have to be played on so you don't have to worry about the scenery being bad to play onOf course there will be just plain adminium jumpcourses. But why not invest in some great back ground scenery or landscapes, and themes. After all this is Blocktopia, which in my opinion equals quality.
Just out of curiosity, is this idea truly being considered by the developers and the HA's or is it going to be like "its a nice idea, but probably won't happen"?
Alright, here's my impressions.
I like the idea. Really. I do. It does sound like it would be fun to play.
Here's the problem. Actually, there's a couple. I'll start with the one that's unavoidable: I can't see us funneling time, money, and staff into this to make it work, and expect a decent payoff. There are already elements of this in both the Zombie and the TNT servers, mostly the former. A lot of the Minecraft parkour/racing as described here can be seen happening spontaneously in the Zombie server, and is often encouraged or even enforced by the map itself.
Furthermore, there's another big problem with this: a race between players on different paths might be nice, but what happens when it takes several minutes just to get past the first jump, due to everyone pushing each other and penning themselves in? This is Minecraft, and players have mass; if two people try and cross the same obstacle at the same time, someone's not gonna make it. Worse, the decision of who makes it is decided by sheer luck more often than skill, and the #1 way to make a gamer angry is to make them lose (or die, in some games) due to forces beyond their control that can strike at any time. It's possible this could be eliminated with a plugin or something of the sort, but the first point still stands tall.
So: good idea and good presentation, but I don't see this happening. Thanks for actually taking the time to think this idea out and make sure it hasn't already been formally presented before posting! :)
