Hi guys I have a suggestion for the all of Blocktopia, I dont know where this thread belongs but I think It would belong here in the Discussion thread but if it does not you can just move it. So anyways I got a suggestion and that suggestion is A Blocktopia Instigram Account, It can help advertise our servers a little more and I can post pictures everyday of Blocktopia and whats going on, But I dont get multiplayer on premuim So maybe I can just post whats going on on the premium servers. But its just a thought that came up, I just want your Ideas of this thought

Thanks for your time

I don't use Instagram.
In fact, I never use Instagram because I never really see a point to using it in the first place.
Instagram is a photo-sharing website.
Minecraft isn't very photogenic; there isn't anything cool or exciting that Minecraft can really do, albeit distinguish ourselves as a Gaming group within the possibly thousands or millions of other Minecraft photo's out there.
Plus, the majority of people I know only use instagram to send pictures between friends on what they did today or something silly or funny to them or whatever.
They may subscribe to people who post interesting pictures and photos.
I don't think Minecraft is very interesting to look at unless, of course, it has some fairly fantastical builds as I have seen groups such as FyreUK have done.

Plus, It would probably really have to be up to head staff to even post anything on there.
If you, as that is what I am reading, is the person using the account to post pictures. You probably, and this goes really or any person that doesn't happen to go on a variety of servers and such, will most likely only post photo's of occurrences between you and your little group of friends and such.
How often will you post?
What is the quality of the pictures you will be posting?
Does this represent the community well? Or not as well as we really are?
What will actually be represented within the photo's themselves?
All can be possibly variables in this affair.

This idea is basically the Youtube Channel Idea.
It was proposed, though I've never seen it come into full affect, nor widely accepted.
It's a nice concept, and it may, have some small, but nonetheless menial impact unless somehow it becomes a major hit, which I honestly do doubt.
Youtube has more versatility, and can easily do a better job at showing the community than through Instagram-pictures.
Of course, we haven't exactly done anything with that either unless it's community-driven channels and content.

That's the solution.
If you want to make an Instagram to show off or make some advertisement known about Blocktopia as a whole, just do it.
It's a personal Instagram where you can just show random pictures itself.
The Instagram doesn't have to be "official" as you are making it out to be in this thread.
You are effectively asking Permission to put up pictures of the servers, which you can do anyways without it.
Just don't highlight it as an "official" source for the community as a whole, just as Youtube Commentators and videos have, and are doing right at this very moment.
Just make a personal, fan-account.
There is nothing else to the idea than that.

I think that the best way to acquire more players is to figure out a way to retain them so that they will want to come back. I noticed that there seems to be new players in Classic Lava that play for an hour or so, but they end up leaving usually never come back.

As for using Instagram to advertise the servers -- I don't think that using that medium will be as effective as using YouTube. Seeing videos of other players playing in-game is far more interesting than looking at a photo. And I think it helps other players get into it more. As an example, I was watching a few AoD videos that players posted up -- and i'm using the videos as reference to sort of help me along in creating a map for the server -- Truth be told, I haven't played on AoD nor do I plan to in the future.

I'm sure that new players will have a positive response to player submitted videos that show differences in Blocktopia's servers -- And yeah, you can find them by searching for "Blocktopia" on YouTube or through here. Actually -- I noticed that another server's forums has a "Media" section devoted to such things and I was wondering if our forums can have that as well.

If you want to lure people in via video, make trailers. I just looked up BT on YouTube and all we have are let's plays.
Truth be told, LPs tend to get boring. The servers should have trailers.
Take some shots of in-game action, snip them up, put them together, add bloom and other effects, set it to epic music and there you go. It's certainly more likely to hook people than some guy talking while playing.

Oh, so something like this?
Needs moar screen wipes.

On a serious on-topic comment.
As others have said the whole thing with the photos is that ideally unless someone knows specifically what minecraft is or why they should care. As well as what 'blocktopia' has to do with the photo and other various etcs.
From what I gather the site seems focused on here look at this funny thing I saw/did/couldn’t keep to myself and ohlookiateattacobell here’s a picture.

Just seems that unless you have room to explain where each photo was taken (server wise) and what each server is about, that you are already hosting a youtube or twitter in the process and thus defeating the purpose of the sites ideal streamlining?

No matter though seems others have said if you want to do it, do it. Though I think the only thing that matters in the long run is that you should ENJOY doing it not simply to attempt to bring in new and lively, hopefully amazing new members into the fold. Rather, doing it so you can freely express your caring demeanor towards the community growing, etc.

Dio if you can do it, do it. Make it however you think is best, I don't know why there seems to be a negative attitude towards this which I believe can be a simple project.

Saying that you don't think it will attract many people, if it brings 1 person it was a success. There is no harm in trying it out as Chillingworth said.
