Is the cult the mafia, or something else entirely? And what does this cult do? Are there cult members who started the game in the cult or are they all recruited? gosh this is so confusing

From my understanding, the Cult is a separate faction entirely, not linked to either one of the Mafia/Town. They aim to win the game by being the majority faction in the game, much like the Mafia. Most of them are recruited, aside from the Cult Leader, who does the recruiting. Of course, my knowledge comes from other games of Mafia outside of Blocktopia; it could be different here, but that's the general idea of the role.

If Grimm is telling the truth about her role (I doubt it, there would be no reason for Balloon to risk it if he were Mafia), I think it would be safe to assume that there is a Cult in the game.

On a related note, there is a fairly common role known as a Mason. The Mason is town sided, and visits one person every night, but if they encounter certain more powerful Mafia roles, they/whichever ones voted to visit given play all die. It's essentially a town-sided cult. Since, whenever I log into #btmafia, no one's on, I don't know if this exists in forum mafia games, but I've chanced across it elsewhere quite often.

They might also have other roles in the cult which I don't know. My job is to convert the normal cult members into passive passengers, but so far I have only attempted omo and received a negative result. Again, I do not know about the existence of a cult in this game, but my guess is most likely.

((also, it's possible that you are actually Culted yourself.
Actually with the presence of the Cult, no one is actually the least bit clear, as the Watcher, Tracker, etc. can all be Culted.
This game just got a lot more complicated.))

Okay, I didn't get any notifications, sorry for my absence!
I've just read through everything that I've missed and seeing that the cult is virtually taking our players, it seems a bad thing? If we were to kill a cult, if there even is one (Who knows, everyone could be false claiming! Although I do believe grimm more) would we get our players back or would they also, be gone?
I'm going to put my vote back onto grimm, if guilty then I will put a slight bit more trust onto balloon, and vise versa (as at least 2 people have stated)

The weather had gotten good. Almost too good: The sun was burning down on the ship, now lying flat in a slack. The heat was getting to everyone, and purified water was getting less and less. As the discussions dragged on, it seemed like the one thing that caused all this had been almost forgotten by now: The gold. Nobody cared anymore, they simply wanted to get off this rotten ship.
