If anything less than $2 is detrimental, is it possible to set up a BuyCraft shop?
I just feel that $2 is a bit much still for a Minecraft items that may be wiped in a few months or years, opposed to TF2 items that'll stay forever, hence why something closer to $1 being better. With a low amount as well, people can buy keys for themselves, and some friends as well without feeling like they've brutalized their wallet.

That is a good point. Since it would run with Buycraft, that was already considered. It doesn't change the fact that PayPal loves taking fees. I think the lowest we could go whilst still making a minimal profit is $1,50. Now, consider that buycraft charges $6 per month, you are looking at 6 people needing to buy a key in order for us to earn like 50 cents...

Will have to think about it!

GmK Since I'm not interested in purchasing crates, it is impossible for me to submit the form when Question number 2 desires an amount greater than $2. Since I'm not interested in paying, it doesn't make sense for me to put an amount in for #2. Could you change the form to make #2 an un-required question?

Edit: Reasoning explained below by GmK. Thanks for the quick response!

Even if you dont intend to do so yourself, you can still judge the value of such a thing, the value you deem fitting. If that is the minimum - 2 - so be it ;)

May I Suggest that if this gets added there will be a way to buy more keys at a time, due to fees?

If it gets added, that is for sure!

Also, the person buying never pays fees, only the receiver.

You could create bundles, for example:

1 Key = $1.50
2 Keys = $3
5 Keys = $5
8 Keys = $6 (BEST DEAL!)

This way people may feel more inclined to buy the 8 key deal as it will give them a better value for keys, and people may feel generally better that they can buy more keys at a time rather than having to keep repeatedly buying keys.

Yes, like that e.g.

For now we just are interested if people would actually like / use that. It is very new terrain for us, since we detest most of the "Pay-to-get-stuff" schemes. Other servers even let you pay to get unbanned (!), that's the weirdest shit I have seen in a long time.

Good on you for expanding future ideas for the server GmK! If it works out, you could have a "crate" system for other servers too, giving you random amounts of brains or something for each crate eg 200 brains minimum- 300 brains per dollar maximum. That way, the player would get a small booster if they wanted to chance with the crates and it would create more funding for the server sets, allowing in potentia for blocktopia to expand! :D

Sorry for any spelling mistakes or tired ramblings, anasthetic's still wearing off.

I'm going to have to be the wet blanket here and say I'm against this. Blocktopia has always had a strict policy against donor benefits. Any incentive like this, even if it isn't game-breaking, rewards donation with items, and I believe this goes against Blocktopia's standards. Even useless items could potentially make poorer users feel lesser due to their lack of irl money. I love the ingenuity of the idea, but I don't think it's right for Blocktopia.

Also, I don't intend to debate my opinion. Along with many others, I'm sick of arguing. I just came here to pose my own idea and opinion. If I've misunderstood something, I apologize! I just feel as if it's important to get both side's perspective.

EDIT: Da Jinks has brought up an excellent point about the ability to trade valuables for keys. If we were able to destroy the crates and not have to carry them around, many of us would be for it.

GmK could you explain the reasoning for this a bit better, As stated above blocktopia has always had a strict policy against not giving donor perks. I'm all for making the community money and experimentation with new ideas isn't always a bad thing however. This looks to me as a massive risk that could go down a slippery slide If we don't tread carefully. And Unless this is really necessary/has pretty good reasoning behind it I'd rather not see this at all. The decisions made on this Could have a very large impact on the future of the community and as we stand we're a community of "friends" right now. This is something i enjoy about the place, though we could use some expansion. I remember runescape started adding a whole bunch of stuff and it Just annoyed the older members and a lot of them started leaving. If we're not careful I think we will Irritate the playerbase we operate off of. If we need money could we simply look for more ways to collect money or simply trying to push people to donate a tad more first?

@Players

Please realize if this was implemented, we would extensively try to give no real perks. These items will be by and by useless, just fun and stuff you can brag about!

While I understand where some people are coming from, and I encourage you to make your displeasure of the idea known, we will never give any real 'perks' for donating. So don't worry too much about us spiraling down that path ;)

Perhaps you could have, for example, no dungeons, but mob realms or something. For example, there might be a bryce mesa biome with a small enderdragon flying around in it, and it might drop some cool shizzlenizzle, plus a key or two, or a massive buffed witch in a castle, or a swarm on carnivorous sheep, or something. I reckon, if there's a few more alternative ways of obtaining keys (but not enough to defeat the purpose) that are relatively difficult, it could smooth over the whole thing.

I actually like this idea. In the hardest of dungeons, keys would be an excellent incentive to get players killed horribly into the dungeons.
