"A spriggan? Well, I was very much aware that you were a plant, it just seemed a bit curious that you were this mobile, until now.
And yeah, I've never run across one of your kind before, and I'm betting you haven't met one of my nation either.
If you haven't guessed by my clothes, I'm from a much colder region down to the south."

A shiver ran up Ketten's spine and her attitude changes dramatically once again. This being seemed rather like a 'special snowflake' so she wanted to make him painfully aware it her distaste at such a notion. "Human is human. Elf is elf. Spriggan is spriggan. Race is race, no matter the region. And I've met humans before. Notably that blue-robed one over there." She pointed to the man that had accompanied her here. Not because she was overly fond of him out anything, just because he was the most interesting human she'd seen in a while.... ((Baka))

Erien

"Mynaeia, your boyfriend seems to be in a somewhat intoxicated state," Erien remarked dryly. "Anyhow, can we go back now? This really is important and... uh, I wouldn't want Takot here cause any trouble here." People were already beginning to take notice and while Erien didn't exactly hate alcohol or simply fooling around every once in a while, there was a time and a place for such antics and he wasn't sure a ballroom full of people, many of them uptight snobs, was such a place.

Mynaeia wrinkled her nose as Takot stumbled over and began speaking in a drawled voice. With a clear expression of distaste, she nodded at Erien's suggestion to retreat back to a uh.. more private space. Gesturing to the small group and taking Takot gingerly by the arm, she led them up the stairs and back into her quarters. "So," she begun, "We wanted to speak about why we're here?" She glanced back at Takot briefly, her look one of concern and disapproval. "More specifically, why we all seemed to wake up around the s-same timeframe?"

Erien

He followed the others back to Mynaeia's room and closed the door behind him.

"So... we wanted to speak about why we're here? More specifically, why we all seemed to wake up around the s-same timeframe?"

Erien nodded. "Right, do any of you have any idea whatsoever why we've woken?" Everybody shook their heads.

"Okay... have any of you noticed that your powers are much less... well, powerful, than they used to be?" Everybody nodded and the wizard paused for a moment to think how to proceed with what he was going to say.

Then he began. "I've been awake for a little more than six years now. I've had time to think about this and I've had time to investigate this. I'm not sure how long you all have been awake, I'm guessing Zwn here has been awake for quite some time now as well, maybe even longer than I have, but that's besides the point, I guess. The point is, in those six years I've come to some pretty heavy conclusions.

"For those six years, I mostly travelled around Arun and learned about the world, what happened after I fell asleep. It's mostly what you'd expect, but there have been some incidents that shouldn't have happened, especially in the recent past. Stronger earthquakes, spontaneous appearances of clusters of raw magical energy, deadly firestorms, things like that. Not too often, but often enough to raise suspicion.

"Now, usually those things shouldn't happen, at least not on this scale. It's not fully out of control yet, but it's getting there. Usually we, the Guardians, keep those incidents from happening by controlling the elements, even the deep sleep that we often fall into. Somehow, it seems that we've lost control of the elements in this world. A few years ago, I came across a particularly powerful mass of raw magic energy and I realized that that mass had sentience. It was the manifestation of the element of magic that had managed to escape my bounds.

"So, naturally, I bound it to the nearest artefact I could find that could handle the energy. Unfortunately, I haven't so far been able to rein it back into myself, but I have been able to control it by binding it to the artefact. It's restless though, wants to get out.

"I believe that something similar may have happened to your own elements as well. I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I think it's likely. Why it has happened, I don't know. From what I know and remember of the previous worlds, we've fallen into Slumber many times and this has never happened before. Then again, we've never lost most of our memories upon appearing on a new world, either, so perhaps there's something going on with this particular world that makes things happen that shouldn't happen. All I know is that if we don't find a way to tame the loose elements again, this world will probably experience more and more powerful disasters that are caused by the elements gaining more and more power and in the end, it could all culminate in a worldwide cataclysmic event that would, effectively, end this world.

"This is all hypothetical, of course, but it does seem to be likely, so it's worth considering as a threat in my opinion. So I think that we all should concentrate our efforts into finding and re-establishing control over our escaped elements."

((dun dun duuuun))
((let me know if you're ok with this, if we were to accept this, it would pretty much set the objectives of the rp and i don't want to make that decision completely on my own))

As he listened to Endal- erm, Erien, speak, Ross felt several things fall into place. Though he also felt very confused by one question: Why? He also felt a surge of panic as he worried what such a mass of water could do to Natovicci. He suppressed it until he'd be able to go back down into the ocean and check.

"This reminds me of something that happened before we slept." He looked around to locate Takot, and realized once again that he was drunk. Oh well. "Takot. I need you to try to sober up for a minute. Do you remember when the Aspect of Fear made his way out of his own plane of existence and into ours? It created phenomena very similar to what our friend the Guardian of Magic has just described. Do you remember what you did to contain him?"

((Yeah I'm good with this, sounds like fun.))

Takot sat gaping for a second, attempting to put thought into words. It was all very embarrassing. Without warning, his kind eyes widened, and the attitude behind them seemed to darken. A sarcastic smirk replaced the usual goofy smile. "Oh, you're talking about me." Fear yawned. "Boy, it's been a while since I got control." "

I can tell you now, Takot doesn't exactly remember what he did to make us one. I do however." The boy stretched. "Long story short, Corruption tore the original Takot apart with corrupt magic, killing him. Thanks to the corruption or something, we ended up splitting, so technically Takot isn't exactly the Guardian of Fear, more like the vessel. Through some magic mumbo jumbo, I ended up possessing the dead body of the original Takot, and running rampant, while Takot sort of just- reappeared." Fear looked bored, and turned to Ross. "You and he teamed up if you remember, and Takot spoke to me and convinced me to join with him again. So now we sort of just switch personalities. I'm basically his shadow, though it ought to be vice versa. That's all the info I can think of off the top of my head, any questions?" Fear smirked.

The other's were probably affected by Takot's transformation into Fear, well, except for Himinn. The two of them had hung around Takot between the time they merged and the time they all fell asleep. "No, my point, Himinn, is that Fear is still here. Instead of his own plane. Which means we still don't have a way to banish them if these elemental masses are sentient manifestations of our elements, i.e. the Aspects forcing into our realm instead of remaining in their own plane. Perhaps Erien could prepare some sort of ritual, but as we already heard, he's not powerful enough to preform it. At least not alone."

Erien

The wizard instantly turned cautious when he saw the Aspect of Fear take Takot over. He listened to the conversation and then Ross said something about a ritual to force the elements back into their own realm.

He straightened. "Yes, well, for every element there would still have to be that particular Guardian present... or in Takot's case, the ...vessel, as Fear here so eloquently put it. The way the system works is that every element is forced into their own plane of existence through the Guardians, they sort of reside in the Guardians themselves and sort of don't. It's pretty complicated elemental theory, I'm not going to delve into details here. What I believe has happened, though, is that the barrier keeping the elemets and their sentient aspects within us Guardians has weakened during our Slumber to the point where the elements can escape the bounds that keep them locked inside us. They can't do it all at once, so parts of the elements are probably still inside us, otherwise the aspects would've gained their full powers already and then we probably wouldn't be here any more.

"The way things are right now, I'm guessing we might have to actually fight the escaped parts of the elements to weaken them to the point where we can perform the necessary rituals on them. I'm not exactly needed for them and they can vary from element to element, but with our current power levels, I think that the more Guardians there is performing each ritual, the better. Also, for every element, it's pretty much necessary for the respective Guardian to be present as well, although there are some rare exceptions that I'd rather not rely on, because that can get way too complicated.

"Before we do anything else, though, there is the issue of Fear here. At this point, I would say that this will turn out to be Elements vs. Guardians, but" -he turned to Takot- "you don't really seem to be too hostile or against this. So the way I see it, there's two possibilities. Either you're actually genuinely on our side with this or you're plotting something. So I want you to tell us right now, do you have any goals of your own or are you going to help us, even as Fear and not Takot?"

Rowan clenched his fists and winced as the sound of the closed door reverberated violently in his ears. A heavy, lonely blanket of silenced weighed over him, causing his feet to trudge. Sucking in a sharp breath, he shook his head and moved on. You should've known better, he scolded himself bitterly. This is the truth of the world. It's better off making no emotional ties with anyone. They'll only keep you from reaching your goal. A blazing silhouette of a tall, wounded man appeared before him, boiling his blood. However, it was harder to discern, and Rowan found himself having momentary lapses in anger.

It scared him.

From his left, a faint cry wriggled into his ears, getting louder and louder. "Roooooooowwaaaaaaaaann!" Upon hearing the familiar voice, Rowan gasped and turned to his left to see a round, red-nosed figure bouncing toward him with a wide grin. "Rowan, my boy! It's been so long, how are ya?"

A million memories burst from Rowan's mind all at once. Memories of his father and of Brom, the kind and rowdy guard at the village entrance. Them throwing him up into the air as a little kid, his dad giving him piggyback rides, Brom's resounding laughter as he tried beer for the first time, running through the fields with bright, wondrous eyes and it looked as though the wheat was glowing. The memories became to much for him to bear and overflowed, wet, hot tears rolling from his eyes. His legs moved on their own and he threw himself into Brom, hugging him tightly. A reassuring hand rustled his messy hair kindly and he was suddenly 10 again. "It's been a while," Rowan said softly. So much for cutting emotional ties.

"Say, Rowan, who was that beauty you just talked to?" Brom asked innocently, changing the subject. Rowan broke off and backed away a bit, embarrassed to tell him his impulsive decision.

"Well... she was." He dug his nails into his palm nervously. "Some shit happened, and, well, I'm gonna be leaving pretty soon."

"Well, you better say sorry before leaving, right?"

"I was planning on just going."

"Brom raised his eyebrows. "That won't do. Go in there and say you're sorry to her first, you never know what good could come out of it!"

"I don't want to," Rowan said childishly, turning away. A twinge of anger rippled in his stomach.

"Rowan, you know you best go in there."

"No. It doesn't matter, I'm not going to see her again. I'm just going to leave anyway. Besides, I'm not supposed to go in there anyway." He began walking away from the building, turning over his shoulder to look at Brom. "I'm gonna leave now. Whether you want to come with me or not is fine, but I'm not gonna go back there. Your choice."

Brom stood there for a bit, watching the distance between them grow, before angrily marching into the building. "Damn kid, making me clean up his messes always... He's fuckin' 24!"

(( I'll stop there, post more about brom's shenanigans in the ball later.

Sorry if this seems low-quality, I haven't written anything in a really long time so I don't feel like I'm at my best rn :S ))

Avis nods along as Erien speaks. 'That explains a lot.'
And the discussion goes along normally until--
"Oh, you're talking about me."
That catches her attention.
She listens more intently now, just taking in everything that's being said, but then one of Erien's statements catches her off-guard.
"...I'm guessing we might have to actually fight the escaped parts of the elements to weaken them to the point where we can perform the necessary rituals on them."
"Fight them...?"
'Flight wouldn't make me do that... Would they?'
"Surely they can't all be hostile."
Clasping her hands behind her back, she rocks back onto her heels. He does seem really sure of himself, but...
Would they?

~~~
"Hello, my child."
...?
Alouette opens her eyes to see what could be called a room, though it feels more like a cavern; the curving walls and ceiling almost appear to be made of stone. A soft silver light comes from nowhere, bright but not harsh, and the sound of running water softly echoes from somewhere behind her.
"It feels like such a long time has passed since you last slept."
Looking around as she sits up, her eyes fall on someone else; the only other in the room, the one who had been speaking.
They're a tall, slim person of indeterminate gender; their eyes glow with the same power that had thrummed within her what still felt like just hours earlier.
The very same patterns that span her body are proudly displayed on their skin, pulsing to a rhythm that Alouette can only assume matches their heartbeat.
She knows without thinking that this must be her aspect: the true embodiment of the element of Flight.
Questioning, she looks up at them. "Where am I...?"
"That is of no importance."
Their smile is reassuringly benevolent; she sees no reason not to believe them.
"I did not mean to wake you just yet. The time will come for us to meet, but that is not for some time yet." They lean down to press a kiss to her forehead, as gently as a brush of wind. "For now, my child, you must sleep."
...
Erien
At that point Alouette speaks up. "Surely they can't all be hostile?"
Erien stops to think for a moment. "Well... I suppose there is some chance of some elements not being hostile, but you have to understand that they are raw forces of nature, wild and independent to a fault. They can band together to achieve victory over a common enemy, but in the end, the only goal that the Elements have is complete domination. Aspects are the sentient manifestations of the Elements and are capable of more complex thought, like a human, but the elements themselves only have one thing on their mind: themselves. That's why the Guardians were created, to keep the elements under control so that the world wouldn't be an endless turmoil between warring elements, each trying to gain an upper hand over the others. If some of them aren't hostile, then they probably have some schemes of their own and if some of them have genuinely evolved past that single primal instinct of taking everything over, then I'd need to see some pretty concrete proof before I believe it. I know for a fact that my own element would be trying to tear the world apart if I hadn't been able to lock it away into that antique vase that was nearby when I met it."
Himinn pondered over what that would mean for her element. To some, it would seem kind of pointless to have a guardian for the sky, of all things, but she knew by now exactly why such a role is necessary. Without her role, there would be snow in the desert. Factory smog in a forest with no civilization in sight. Clear blue skies where it's supposed to be midnight. "Oh, crap."
The other talked and Ross took the moment to consider what could possibly be happening in his oceans right now. Maelstroms. Hurricanes. Whirlpools. And those are just the possibilities on the surface. All manner of horribly destructive things could be lurking underthe surface. He shuddered as he considered what could happen to Natovicci if this were to be allowed.
Inside, Ross knew that the surface population was probably more important, but his emotional attachment drew him to worry more about his undersea worshipers. Unlikely that it would lead him to go off on his own, but he'd be damned if the worry didn't eat away at him.
Well, guess I did a good job keeping my 'element under control'
Light sat on a chair in the corner. He wasn't particularly absent, but he didn't draw a lot of attention either.
I wasn't really a guardian to begin with I think... Though that moron... myself... - whoever - did transfer everything from one body to another... How would that even-
Lost in thought, he absentmindedly muttered "God I'm going to need a drink after this."
Marisa's eyes widen. "That's so cool! So it's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside?"
"Is that so...?" Avis mumbles, and draws her legs up to cross them. 'They don't seem to be plotting anything... But am I honestly the best judge of character?'
Considering that thought, she absently picks at a loose thread at the edge of her sleeve; but before she can get completely lost in thought:
"Oh, crap."
She looks over at Himinn, not quite confused but curious. "What is it?"
